Abortion guide published by Playboy describes abortion

In a book entitled The Abortion Guide: A Handbook for Women and Men and published by Playboy Paperbacks, there are descriptions of abortion procedures. This is what Playboy thinks women and men need to know about a first trimester procedure:

“The length of gestation is one factor that bears upon dilation. The longer a woman has been pregnant, the more tissue there is to be removed…

The cannula is inserted into the uterus, the suction machine is turned on, and the contents of the uterus are withdrawn. The sensation produced is again cramping, mild to severe and similar to that of menstruation. There may also be a tugging or pulling sensation.

After suctioning, the uterus may be explored with a curette (a spoon -like instrument) to make certain it is completely empty. Suction may be continued for another minute or so, and this completes the abortion procedure… The procedure may last from 2 to 10 minutes.… Any lingering cramps will subside in about 20 minutes.”

The book describes a D&E this way:

“Dilation and suction are employed as they are in early abortion. In addition to suction, however, forceps (grasping instruments) are used to remove fetal tissue… The contents of the uterus are removed by suction and forceps, which are used alternately until the uterus is completely empty… The tugging and pulling sensations are greater than in early abortion, and there is a greater sense of pressure. Heavier cramping occurs near the end of the procedure as the uterus begins to contract.”

Woman who took abortion pill: “I was lied to!”

Nelle, who had an abortion by pill, wrote that she was 6 weeks pregnant when she went to Planned Parenthood for an abortion:

“The ENTIRE time I was there I was told LIES! They said, “There are no real risks, this is like a period, light cramping, it’ll all be over within 2 days.” They assured me I didn’t have to do anything. I didn’t want to!…

They gave me a packet full of information and only went over the first page….I asked a Million Questions. Planned Parenthood assured me I was going to be fine, and it would all be over in 2 days….

Of course, I had to read the packet they didn’t go over with me, and inside it said I might bleed for up to 3 weeks. 3 WEEKS!

No one actually says that you BLEED FOR WEEKS! NO ONE!

That would have been great to know beforehand. I would have NEVER opted for this method if I knew that vital piece of information.

I had asked multiple nurses and they assured me it would all be clear within a few days!….

Anyway, it hurt like crazy and I have never been more nauseated and in pain in my life. I was a sweaty, bloody, crying mess. The cramping was pretty bad for me but it was the fact of feeling the chunks fall out of you. I sat on the toilet and eventually put on a maxi pad and sat on the couch. It was about 3-4 hours of cramping until it came out….

They assure you there is literally zero risk and that it is quick, private, and like a period. Which is all a lie!…

I was completely misinformed and lied to. I feel very manipulated.”

She is still pro-choice.

Baby survives abortion, nurse shoves child into biohazard bag

18-year old Sycloria Williams abortion had an abortion at 23 weeks, an age when babies have been born and survived.

“Hardly showing, Sycloria Williams didn‘t realize how far along she was. The second day of her procedure didn‘t go according to plan. She says, ―I was supposed to be asleep for all of this. I wasn‘t supposed to see anything. Just wake up and it will all be over,‖ she had been told. Instead, she was awake when she pushed out a baby, who was still alive. Father of aborted baby describes “painful” abortion

Bill came with his partner to an abortion clinic and watched a video they showed. After seeing it he said:

“They showed a film; I was surprised at the brevity of the procedure, and the seeming painlessness.”

But after the procedure, he said:

“Looking back on it, it was a lot more painful than I thought it would be. Mentally painful. The emotions were very strange. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that way before.

We talked about it some after, but not much. Didn’t seem like there was a whole lot to say.

I think things changed between us in a very subtle way. I felt resentment toward her. Maybe she felt the same way about me.”

Post-Abortive woman talks about being on “assembly line”

Jill Marquis, who had an abortion, said:

Woman says why she would abort child with down syndrome

Mary Ann Bailey, saying why she would have an abortion if her baby tested positive for down syndrome:

“Given a choice, I would rather my child did not have a disability. That’s all.”

Bailey also says that a child born with down syndrome will have “potentially significant limitations” (66) and that even though families with down syndrome children tend to function well, “life will still be more difficult” for her and her family (70).

Woman defends her abortion

One woman admits that her abortion was selfish, but it was her choice:

Woman describes extremely painful abortion

From one woman who had an abortion:

“I just got a surgical abortion yesterday at 10 weeks 3 days. I didn’t have a driver so I couldn’t be sedated. The doc did give me some kind of numbing shot in my cervix but I’m not sure it did anything for me.

From the start, inserting the speculum, the shot, and the procedure itself was one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever had. The doc had to continually tell me to stop clenching my butt and to keep my legs wide (I did not know I was doing those things until he would tell me I was). I can’t describe the pain, the nurse/assistant was holding my hands and reminding me to breathe. I’m almost in tears thinking of what I went through. Near the end I broke down crying. I had to choke down tears walking into the room with the other ladies who have not gone yet (I was first). I felt so bad that a younger girl saw me and started crying herself. They wouldn’t even give me a Tylenol when I asked.”
