Woman conceived in rape speaks

Jennifer Bowman, who was conceived in rape, says:

“They see us as someone to be pitied. They think we will be deformed, that we will be failures in life, that we have evil genes, and that we are just waiting to wreak havoc on our birth mothers who are trying to get on with life…. I don’t want people who are not in my circumstances making decisions for me. It’s my right to decide whether to be alive or not. I wish people would stop equating us to the act that brought us here….I felt that I was alone, that I was strange in some way. I wanted to have this website so people would have a place to go.”

Finding comfort in numbers, Bowman established a website for people conceived through rape. “Forgotten Victims of Rape.” J. Bowman with A. LeBlanc. The Forgotten Victims of Rape. Conceived in rape: “I guess I have no right to live”

“My mother was raped as a thirteen-year-old. She gave birth to me, then gave me up for adoption. Every time I’ve heard people say abortion is okay in cases of rape, I’ve thought, ‘Then I guess I have no right to live.’ “

Conceived in rape: did I have the right to live?

In Randy Alcorn’s book Why Pro-Life?, A  person conceived in rape speaks out about how painful it is to hear people justify abortion in cases of rape:

“My mother was raped as a thirteen-year-old. She gave birth to me, then gave me up for adoption. Every time I’ve heard people say abortion is okay in cases of rape, I’ve thought, ‘Then I guess I have no right to live.’ “

Woman Conceived in Rape Speaks Out

Mary Rathke, who was conceived in rape, speaks out:

maryrathke rape

“Because of the circumstances concerning my conception–by RAPE–I, and all those who will be conceived in the same manner have been marked for death by a great number of people. We are called the “demon seed,” who are  unable to contribute to our society, unable to bring our mother’s joy.

Unprotected, sadly, even by some individuals and organizations who refer to themselves as “pro-life”. How sad that so many who purport to champion the cause of the unborn, consider me “an exception”. But I’m NOT an exception…I am a human being….

I am here today, because my mother–despite the fact that she was mentally ill AND raped, on her way home from work one night–decided my life had value, that no matter how I was conceived, I was valuable and worth protecting. I am far from “demon seed”.  I am a beautiful licensed minister who volunteers to help the homeless, a wife, mother and friend. Yet, like so many minorities in America, I am the target of hate. My people group (those conceived by rape) are not protected by law like many other minority people groups. Instead, every time a law is passed with a rape exception, a clear message is broadcast that my life has no value….

For someone who was conceived in rape-like me, I see this as a prejudice issue. Similar to a hate crime, we are called “demon seed.” I have received hate mail stating my mother made the wrong choice and should have aborted me. I have friends who, because they were conceived in rape, were spit on….

Can you look me in the eyes and tell me my mother should have had the option of legally aborting me and that my life is not worth fighting for?”

Pro-Lifer Conceived in Rape Speaks out

A Human Life International Employee conceived in rape:

“I am sure happy that my life  was not cut off because of a crime my biological father committed. I am grateful for the life I am living and I know, even though I am far from perfect, my mom has no regrets either. Despite the circumstances of my conception, once I exist, I have the right to life, just as you or anyone else does – for it IS an inalienable right.”

Many people support abortion in cases where the mother is a victim of rape – but few think about the unborn baby, who was an innocent victim as well. Here’s a picture of an abortion at eight weeks. You can’t tell if the baby killed in this abortion was conceived by rape or not. Either way, it’s a violent death for the baby.

Often abortion, even in cases of rape or incest, is not in the best interest of the woman either. Read some testimonies of women were raped and became pregnant here.
