Post-abortion woman laments she destroyed her only chance of being a mother

A woman who had an abortion wrote:

“I was only 18 at the time and at that time I had no idea that would be my only opportunity to have a child. I did have a few minor gynecological problems and I am not sure if they are directly related to my abortion. A few months ago, at 43, I had a hysterectomy and that is what made me realize that I would never have a child of my own and ruined and destroyed any chance of ever becoming a mother. If only I had known. . . .”

Minister is happy to support Planned Parenthood

Valerie Miller Coleman, minister of Community Engagement, Plymouth United Church of Christ:

“Our faith demands a compassionate response to the hardships our most vulnerable neighbors face… We’ve had record giving every time we tell our congregation their gifts will support Planned Parenthood…

Women’s health is a crucial piece in a strong, healthy society, and we have a broad understanding of that.

As people of faith, we believe that abundant life is a gift from God which belongs to all people. Ensuring that all women have full access to excellent health care is essential to that vision of abundance.

We are proud to support the mission and work of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.”

Religious Baptist has abortion

An article in the New York Times profiled women having abortions. This is the story of one woman:

“Alexia, a Baptist who wore a cross pendant, prayed all through the two-and-a-half-hour drive from Delta State University in Mississippi. She was having her third abortion.”

She says:

“My religion is against it. In a way I feel I’m doing wrong, but you can be forgiven. I blame myself. I feel I shouldn’t have sex at all.”

Christians have abortions just like other people. Churches need to tell their parishioners where they can go to for support and explain to them why abortion is wrong.

Pro-lifers help poor couple have their baby

Pro-life activist Ken Campbell told the following story:

“On a cold, rainy October day in 1987, Reza, then aged 25 years and Nasrin, aged 21 years…found their way into the back alley of the [abortion clinic]. Here they met two wet and cold sidewalk counselors, Craig and Mary, who offered them pro-life pamphlets and help to continue the pregnancy. The couple was confused and upset about the idea of abortion. Raised as Muslims, each believed in the sanctity of preborn life, but Reza could see no other option for them. They were applying for immigrant status and could barely survive financially.…. As they faced the terrible reality of abortion before them, their hearts sank, but still they decided to enter the [abortion clinic] .… Sickened by the atmosphere, they walked out. Reza recalled, “It looked and felt evil in there.” His reaction crystallized his thoughts and feelings and he remembers thinking, “I’m not a criminal. I don’t want to kill my baby. It’s human too.”

Craig and Mary had waited outside the [abortion clinic] and silently prayed for the young couple. When they reappeared Reza told them “It’s like a house of death in there.” He gave Craig his phone number… The next morning Craig called offering practical and financial help: $500 from Save the Baby Fund to ease their money worries, basic pieces of furniture… a clock and a mattress, a used TV set so Nasrin could learn English, a medical referral to an ever obliging pro-life obstetrician, Dr. Ned Lacey, and even the offer of a better paying job.…

The couple was married on December 10, 1987… Craig would’ve been a witness but he had to appear in court that day on trespassing charges at the abortuary, so Mary filled in for him….

Shayan, which means “deserving”, was born a few months later. His delighted parents summoned Craig…and Mary to the hospital where all rejoiced at the arrival of this precious baby. They proclaimed Craig to be the “baby’s first uncle.” During the next year Craig and his wife continued to visit the family frequently.”

District Attorney describes terrible conditions in Kermit Gosnell’s clinic

Dist. Atty. Seth Williams describing Kermit Gosnell’s clinic after raiding it under suspicion that he was prescribing illegal narcotics. Keep in mind that this clinic was legally doing abortions:

“There was blood on the floor. A stench of urine filled the air. A flea infested cat was wandering through the facility, and there were cat feces on the stairs. Semi-conscious women scheduled for abortions were moaning in the waiting room or the recovery room, where they sat on dirty recliners covered with bloodstained blankets.

All the women had been sedated by unlicensed staff – long before Gosnell arrived at the clinic – and staff members could not accurately state what medications or dosages they had administered to the waiting patients. Many of the medications in the inventory were past their expiration dates.

Investigators found the clinic grossly unsuitable as a surgical facility. The two surgical procedure rooms were filthy and unsanitary – Agent [Stephen] Doughtery described them as resembling “a bad gas station restroom.” Instruments were not sterile. Equipment was rusty and outdated. Oxygen equipment was covered with dust, and had not been inspected. The same corroded suction tubing used for abortions was the only tubing available for oral airways if assistance for breathing was needed. There was no functioning resuscitation or even monitoring equipment, except for single blood pressure cuff in the recovery room.”

Pastor: Reproductive Right are Sacred

Rev. Debra McKnight, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church in Omaha:

“God is a life-giving presence, which means we can and should care for each other with compassion. Faith isn’t just an hour on Sunday morning, but in your everyday life. So, we hope people are thinking about what is life-giving …

I believe that being absolutely pro-birth isn’t always the most life-giving choice. The church needs to be there to support people, not moralize about those choices…we acknowledge that an absolute ban [on abortion] is not necessarily the most life-affirming stance…because it doesn’t take into account the circumstances of the woman and her family.

People of faith can take courage from the prophets of ancient stories and speak up. They can let the world and our leaders know that reproductive rights are sacred and women’s health means healthy families, workplaces and communities.”

Post-abortion woman: regret is crippling

From a study on the psychological ramifications of abortion, a woman tells her story:

“Every woman knows in her heart that abortion is wrong. Even though I was young & scared, there was a feeling of “working against” myself. Through my twenties I would think about it but pushed it aside. It was only when I married & started my family that I began to really struggle with my abortion decision. When my first son was born I realized what I had done so many years ago. The love I have for my children was/is more powerful than any emotion I’ve ever experienced. The thought of anyone hurting them has an enormous effect on me as a mother. The knowledge that I ended the life of my child is difficult to manage emotionally. I have struggled over the years with being extremely hard on myself & emotionally beating up on myself. On the outside I don’t think anyone would see that. I look like I have it “together.” However, it is a battle that I have to be very intentional about. Regret is a crippling state of mind.”

ObGyn on having an abortion

ObGyn William J. Sweeney III, wrote:

“In some hospitals [that do abortions] …the patient is conscious. I wouldn’t be able to stand it, to lie there and listen to this suction thing go sworrpp and then hear something splash into the bottle on top of the machine. It’s bad enough for a doctor to hear, but how must the woman feel, knowing that splash was her fetus or baby that just got sucked out of her? Not only that, but in a lot of places the bottle sitting up there on the machine isn’t changed between abortions… To save time, many clinics just let the bottle fill up. Can you imagine walking into a room where there was a bloody bottle full of other people’s abortions?”

Pro-choice activist suggests pro-lifers want to torture women

From one pro-choice activist:

“The underlying emotion of “prolife” people is not love but fear, which is at least as strong a motivator but is less comfortably admitted….

[I]f we continue to be respectful and legitimate, we soon may be scouring the closet for metal [coat] hangers. … If their side airs commercials with cuddly babies, how about a few with terrified teenagers — children like your own — encountering filthy back-alley abortionists? … How about hooded Inquisitors stretching women on the rack: “Who did it? Where do we find him?” Or Gestapo types breaking into a sterile operating room, destroying science?”

2 abortionists agree with 3- day waiting period

From a dialog between two abortionists:

David B Paintin: “I think 3 days’ delay between the assessment and doing the abortion is absolutely vital.”

Peter Diggory: “Yes, because occasionally a woman says she has changed her mind and wants to go on with the pregnancy. That is evidence that the counseling has been done well.”

David B Paintin: “Exactly. Women don’t change their minds during the assessment session, but only in the ensuing 2 or 3 days.”

Abortion: Medical Progress and Social Implications, CIBA Foundation Symposium 115 (London: Pitman, 1985) 13

These abortionists actually seem to care about the women coming to them for abortions, and want them to be sure about their choices. It is rare to see abortionists this concerned for their patients. But the words of these two doctors show that a waiting period is good medical practice.
