Pro-Choice Activist “Shocked” at Her Feelings

Pro-choice social scientist Angela Neustatter:

“Although I have always marched and campaigned for a woman’s right to choose… when it came to deciding to end a pregnancy, I was shocked by the distress and confusion I felt. I did not like having to take personal responsibility for ending a life.”

James D Slack Abortion, Execution, and the Consequences of Taking Life (New Brunswick: Transaction Publishers, 2009) page 61

This pro-choice activist clearly knows that abortion is taking the life of a baby. She seemed to know this intuitively, even when she was campaigning for abortion rights.

President of Catholics for Free Choice: Abortion is Gruesome

The president of Catholics For Free Choice, Francis Kissling, on late-term abortion:

“It’s gruesome. I think we serve ourselves well by saying that. We are so clinical and abstracted from these realities in our public presentations, it turns people off.”

Sharon Lerner “The Fetal Frontier: Pro-choice advocates wrestle with the uncomfortable” The Village Voice. Nov 30 2004

Below is a 20 week old unborn baby, at an age where he can be legally aborted in any state in the US. These are the abortions Kissling is referring to.

Woman Describes RU-486 Abortion

In an article in the Boston Phoenix, a woman describes an abortion at six weeks. She describes what it was like after taking RU-486, the abortion pill:

“Back at the dorm, hours later, I know that I writhed in my twin bed, suffering from debilitating, convulsing cramps. My roommates, best friend, and boyfriend hovered around; they brought me pain killers, Tiger Balm, hot-water bottles, and applesauce, and all the while they stroked my head and conferenced in the background about how I was doing. I bled profusely as my body rejected the fetus that had been described to me as “the size of a grain of rice.” I threw up. And finally, I fell asleep.”

Anonymous “I Had an Abortion” The Boston Phoenix Sept 24, 2008

Her six-week-old embryo may have been described as a “grain of rice”, but this is what he or she really looked like. At six weeks, the baby has a heartbeat and brain waves as well as the beginning of fingers and toes.

Northen Illinois Women’s Clinic

A Rockford abortion clinic has been cited for numerous violations. According to an article:

A report by the Illinois Department of Public Health says that all three operating rooms in the facility failed a sanitation inspection. Two rooms contained shoes stored with an open box of surgical gloves, and four out of 16 cannulas – which are inserted directly into the cervix of abortion patients – were “stained with a brown substance.”

In another operating room, an open box contained gloves also stained with “a brown substance.” In the recovery room, inspectors also found birth control rings stuffed in the food refrigerator.

No registered nurse had been on staff for three years.

Rockford Alderman Tim Durkee, a physician, told LifeSiteNews.com that finding such unsanitary conditions “in any operating room is disturbing.”

….

Durkee noted that Illinois lawmakers have rejected a law to specify that the operating rooms in abortion mills be subject to the same scrutiny as other operating rooms, a decision he called “absolutely” disturbing.

“For the life of me I don’t understand how any operating room in existence can be exempt from current law,” he said. “Just because you’re putting ‘pro-abortion’ over the door doesn’t exempt you from good medical practice.”

Planned Parenthood and other pro-choice groups continue to fight laws that would require abortion clinics to meet basic health standards and to be inspected.

Pro-Choice Writer Attacks Pro-Lifers

Pro-Choice writer Amanda Marcotte has some “choice” words to say about pro-lifers:

“ If they applied their approach to sex when approaching food, they’d be running around jeering at people in restaurants for eating for pleasure, and they’d run ads showing the contents of the toilet after #2 with language suggesting that since poo is disgusting, the practice of eating for pleasure should be ended.”

Amanda Marcotte “Civility? For the Anti-Choice Movement, It’s An Alien Concept” RH Reality Check September 25, 2011

First of all, Marcotte uses a straw man, assuming that pro-lifers are against sex – which is not true. Second of all, she completely misrepresents the reason why pro-lifers use pictures of aborted babies. These pictures are not effective because they are “disgusting”, but because they show the severed arms and legs and crushed skulls of aborted babies. When looking at the pictures, one cannot deny that human life is taken in each abortion. See pictures here.

Pennsylvania Abortion Clinic Cited for Various Abuses

A clinic called Allentown Medical Services,  located at 2200 Hamilton St., has been cited for health violations:

According to an article:

The Health Department inspected the Allentown center on May 26 and said operators “failed to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.”

It noted that in two “procedure rooms,” an employee showed inspectors dozens of metal devices used in abortions that had been sterilized, but not wrapped to maintain sterility. Nine packages of surgical instruments, the report said, “had an accumulation of brown debris in the hinge areas and brown staining on the inside of the packages.” An employee, who was unnamed, “confirmed that these surgical instruments were considered sterile and ready for patient use.”

In addition, inspectors found instruments in sterile packages that were past the expiration dates listed on the packages. Two disposable uterine catheters had expiration dates of March 15, 2003 and September 2005. Clonidine tablets were also out-of-date.

The report said: Other instruments were stored in dirty containers. A freezer for infectious waste in a scrub room was splattered and smeared with blood and the bottom of the freezer was coated with a “thick layer” of frozen blood.

Further, inspectors found violations in the recovery area, where patient care items such as pillows, blankets and heating pad covers were taken home and laundered by staffers “every once in a while.” The inspection report does not list consequences or a deadline for when the violations have to be addressed. But the Health Department has the authority to pull a license if violations continue.”

It is notable that pro-choice groups such as Planned Parenthood vehemently oppose laws that require abortion clinics to be regulated and inspected.

Gentilly Medical Clinic for Women.

From Jill Stanek “Three Louisiana abortion clinics cited for failure to report child rape” LifeSiteNews Jul 11, 2011:

Gentilly, a particular blight on the New Orleans community, was shut down May 26 under Louisiana’s new, aforementioned “zero tolerance” law for “significant health and safety risks to clients.”

A May 6 LDHH report gave more insight why.

  • Contrary to Louisiana law mandating a 24-hr waiting period before abortions, several patient records reviewed showed late-term abortions – including minors – were initiated the same day as the consent was signed by insertion of laminaria into the mother’s cervix.
  • No licensed nurse on staff.
  • No current fire marshal inspection.
  • No recovery period: Patients were released as soon as their abortions were finished. “S1 confirmed these sedated patients had not been observed in the Recovery Room post procedure…. [T]he patients did not spend any time in Recovery Room.” Furthermore, “Observations… revealed the entrance to Gentilly… to be a spiral staircase leading to the clinic located on the second floor of the building” with “no elevator,” and there was “no documented evidence of the patient’s mode of transportation or the responsible party to whom the patient was discharged.” Most patients were given 5 milligrams of Valium by mouth and 25 milligrams of Demerol by injection before their abortions.

Causeway Medical Clinic, Louisiana

Causeway Medical Clinic in Louisiana ran into problems after being inspected.

  • One of the “Physician[s],”had restrictions on his medical license that did not allow him to perform deliveries”
  • Patient confidentiality was lax: Aborting mothers had to sign in with first and last names that others could see.
  •  The vaginal ultrasound probe was not cleaned properly between uses

This is only one of the many, many cases where abortion clinics are found to be offering substandard medicine. The flaws at this clinic were relatively mild compared to many of the other abuses chronicled on clinicquotes. read more here.

Planned Parenthood Opposes Giving Women Options

Louisiana requires abortion clinics to post signs giving women more information and telling them they cannot be coerced into an abortion against their will.

Here is the sign:

How could abortion clinics have a problem with this? After all, don’t clinics counsel their abortion patients and tell them these things anyway? Apparently not. Planned Parenthood fought this law – they called the signs “offensive.”

Why does Planned Parenthood consider it offensive to tell a woman she cannot be coerced into an abortion she doesn’t want? What are they find unacceptable that she be offered options, told her there is help for her if she chooses not to have an abortion? If they are pro-choice, why are they upset with the sign?
