Abortion by Pill Patient: “You Preside over Killing a Baby”

One reporter recounts the story of a woman, a 30-year-old divorced mother of two, who had an abortion by pill:

“I took the first three tablets. The process had started and it was inevitable. But you have so long to reflect on it, and I became quite upset.

The second stage was pretty awful. After taking [the drug to induce contractions], the pain became very strong. It was just like early labor. I remember finally dispelling the fetus. The nurse told me it was “beautifully formed.”

[This method] may be physically more natural, but psychologically it hits you much harder. You preside over the killing of a baby, completely unblinkingly.”

Rise In Breast Cancer Follows State’s Decision to Fund Abortions

“After Washington state began to provide public funding for abortions in 1970, the breast cancer rate among the poor rose by 53%, while the rate for rich women dropped by 1%.”

The Unknown Dangers of the Abortion Pill

According to one physician

“Long-term physical effects still haven’t really been studied. For example, RU-486 crosses the blood follicle barrier and has been found in the egg follicles of women taking the drug. How this might affect future fertility, pregnancy, and the health of future children is not yet known…

As an artificial hormone, RU-486 interacts with a host of other hormone receptor sites scattered throughout the body.… Not only does RU-486 block the work of progesterone, but, because of its similar chemical structure, it also blocks the normal activity of cortisol, a hormone crucial to many of the body’s metabolic, nervous, circulatory functions. While most progesterone receptor sites are found in various organs of the female reproductive system, every tissue of the body binds cortisol, theoretically opening every system of the body to RU-486’s toxic effects.

Not only does RU-486 linger in all the body’s tissues for several days, but it is also absorbed into the cells in the area where RNA and DNA are stored. What effects this has on a woman’s DNA or RNA is unknown. But phenyl, an important part of the RU-486 molecule, is known to be toxic substance for humans.”

Abortionist Botches Abortion: Must Pay

Pro-choicers often maintain a legal abortion is safe abortion, however complications from legal abortion occur more often than most people think. Recently, a prominent of late-term abortionist, James Pendergraft, was sued by a woman he injured during an abortion.

This is not the first time this abortionist has been in trouble. Pendergraft, who owns five abortion clinics in Florida and one in Washington DC, has had his medical license suspended four times. His offenses include botched abortions, dispensing drugs without a license, making false threats which he blamed on pro-life activists, and performing abortions too late in pregnancy. His last brush with disciplinary action occurred in January of 2010 when he caused a woman serious injuries while aborting her 19 week pregnancy. He was also in trouble for performing abortions later than the law allowed. The woman he injured had to go to the hospital to have the fetus removed. The woman had to have a hysterectomy.

Pendergraft’s latest legal troubles are due not to a baby he killed but to a baby he failed to tell. In November of 2001, Carol Howard became the patient of Pendergraft. She went in for an abortion at 22 weeks. Her daughter was born alive but seriously injured by the abortion. The daughter suffered massive birth defects and is now 10 years old. The mother sued Pendergraft to cover the daughter’s medical expenses. As severely handicapped child, those medical expenses are significant. The girls problems include cerebral palsy, paralysis on one side of her body, lung damage, and brain damage.

Howard won the lawsuit. Pendergraft was ordered to pay her $18,255,000 in punitive damages, $18,000,000 in compensatory damages and over $400,000 in court costs. This money will go towards the expensive medical care that the girl requires.

Pendergraft is still performing abortions despite having his license revoked four times. He is an example of a doctor who gets away with injuring many women and yet still continues a lucrative practice. His late-term abortion clinic in Washington DC advertises on the Internet. He seeks women patients from throughout the United States who come to have their babies aborted as late as the third trimester. Pendergraft does these abortions by injecting poison into the fetal heart and then causing the woman to go through labor to deliver the dead baby. Many of the women who come to him are carrying babies that are handicapped or otherwise ill. They do not want to continue the pregnancy for fear that the child will suffer or be difficult to care for. Others just do not want to be pregnant because of life situations or experiences.

Women seeking late-term abortions should be aware of whether there doctor has any pending lawsuits against him or whether he has ever had his license revoked. Just because abortion is legal does not mean that it is always safe.

Over 600 Women Suffered Serious Complications from RU486

RU486 maker Edouard Sakiz says of the abortion procedure,

“RU486 is not at all easy to use… a woman has to ‘live’ with her abortion for a least a week….It’s an appalling psychological ordeal.”

….

From the author of the article:

“During the first five years of RU486 use in the United States, almost 900 complications were reported to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. These included hemorrhaging, transfusions and emergency surgeries. Complications from RU486 have killed at least 10 girls due to hemorrhaging, infections, rupture of ectopic pregnancy or heart attacks.”

Pro-Choice and Post-Abortive

Sometimes people who are vehemently pro-choice have had abortions themselves, and are trying to justify their choice by championing other people’s abortions. Two former pro-choice activists said the following:

From a woman identified as Kelly:

“The first two years after my abortion, I was probably the strongest pro-choice supporter you could find. It was my way of making sure that what I had done was right. I often wonder about some of the louder pro-choice voices out there, because I remember feeling like that. You have to keep telling everybody that you did the right thing.”

From a woman identified as Elizabeth:

“I was a big contributor to Planned Parenthood and NARAL. It was like: this must be the right position because I have to be okay; if not… I’d have to look at what I’ve done.”

Psychiatrist: Postabortion Women Suffer “Horribly”

A pro-choice psychiatrist who believe that life does not begin until three months after birth, has treated a lot of women after abortion.

“Every single one of them has suffered horribly. They never forgive themselves.”

She says there is no difference between those who are very religious and those who aren’t.

“There may be more fear with the women who are very religious… But the level of grief for women who are even atheist is about the same.”

Woman Describes RU-486 Abortion

In an article in the Boston Phoenix, a woman describes an abortion at six weeks. She describes what it was like after taking RU-486, the abortion pill:

“Back at the dorm, hours later, I know that I writhed in my twin bed, suffering from debilitating, convulsing cramps. My roommates, best friend, and boyfriend hovered around; they brought me pain killers, Tiger Balm, hot-water bottles, and applesauce, and all the while they stroked my head and conferenced in the background about how I was doing. I bled profusely as my body rejected the fetus that had been described to me as “the size of a grain of rice.” I threw up. And finally, I fell asleep.”

Anonymous “I Had an Abortion” The Boston Phoenix Sept 24, 2008

Her six-week-old embryo may have been described as a “grain of rice”, but this is what he or she really looked like. At six weeks, the baby has a heartbeat and brain waves as well as the beginning of fingers and toes.

More Information on RU-486 Abortions

An FDA, report, dated April 30, 2011, says that 14 women in the United States alone have died from using the mifepristone (RU-486) abortion drug and 2,207 women have been injured by it.

According to an article by Steven Ertelt:

Of the women experiencing medical and physical problems resulting from the abortion drug, 612 women required hospitalizations, 339 experienced blood loss significant enough to require a transfusion, 256 experienced infections and 48 women experienced what the FDA labeled as “severe infections.”

“Severe infections generally involve death or hospitalization for at least 2-3 days, intravenous antibiotics for at least 24 hours, total antibiotic usage for at least 3 days, and any other physical or clinical findings, laboratory data or surgery that suggest a severe infection,” the FDA report states.

Women developing infections from usage of the RU 486 abortion drug experienced endometritis (involving the lining of the womb), pelvic inflammatory disease (involving the nearby reproductive organs such as the fallopian tubes or ovaries), and pelvic infections with sepsis (a serious systemic infection that has spread beyond the reproductive organs).

The FDA figures also reveal that abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood are still misusing the abortion drug.

Despite the FDA indicating, “Administration of mifepristone and misoprostol is contraindicated in patients with confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside the uterus,” the abortion drug was given to women in 58 cases where they had an ectopic pregnancy.
