A woman who had an abortion at 36 weeks after a doctor told her the baby would not survive wrote about why she wanted them to do a partial birth abortion. A partial birth abortion is done by pulling the baby out of the mother’s body except for the head. Scissors are them jammed into the back of the baby’s skull and the brain suctioned out. Then the dead baby is removed. It is very similar to the way Kermit Gosnell killed his babies but is done with the head inside a woman’s body. These abortions are now illegal.

“It was important to us to have Abigail come out whole, for two reasons. We could hold her. Jon and Katie could say goodbye to their sister. I know in my heart that we have healed in a healthy way because we were able to see Abigail, cuddle her, kiss her. We took photos of her. Swaddled, she looks perfect, like my father, and Jon when he was born. Those pictures are some of my most cherished possessions. …
Almost six years have passed since we lost [killed- my addition] Abigail, and not a day passes that I don’t think of her. In my heart I know I did the right thing for me and my family. Isn’t that what this is all about?”[maybe it’s also about the baby?]
When commenting on the misconception that most prolife advocates were males and that the pro-life movement was anti-women, Dr. and Mrs. John C. Willke said (in their book):
“We heard the same argument again and again. We did not care about women. But look what was out there! We would soon have 4000 pregnancy help centers in the United States compared to 3000 Right to Life groups. So we had more offices dedicated to helping women than to stopping abortion.
And who staffed them? Well the typical pregnancy help center was 98% female. Yes they might have a male treasurer, and even now and then they would let a man do something else. But it was a woman’s world. Or look at a Right to Life group. Of our 25 members on the board of Cincinnati Right to Life, three fourths were women. Jack represented Ohio on the board of National Right to Life, where three fourths of the delegates were women. Anywhere in the country you went it was the same. If you looked at the pregnancy centers and Right to Life offices combined, you saw that 80% of the activists of the pro-life movement were female. And a majority of the hours expended went toward helping women.”

The following disgusting piece of hate mail was received by Carolyn Gargaro, who has a pro-life webpage. The writer of the letter says terrible things about rape victims who carry their babies to term. It’s attitudes like this that push rape victims into abortions they may not really want. Judgemental “pro-choice” people condemning rape victims for having their babies devalues all women, not just rape victims.Warning: Very offensive language
Any women who would choose to have a kid from rape is a dirty stinky slut. Some women out their love that rough sex. No nice girl would choose to have a child from such immoral sickness. My men friends and women friends, when ever we hear of a girl who claims oh she was raped and she thinks she is so innocent and she wants to give birth from the so called rape, we laugh and say what a stinky slut. Your promoting immorality this is not what God want’s. Your wrong about pro choice movement not wanting women to give life. What we are saying is if you want to have children have them. Some people need an abortion because of rape and such. You don’t want to be a stinky slut and choose to have a kid from what you claim is so horrible as rape. If it is so horrible than how could you choose to give birth. My boyfrien says these girls who do this should be put in jail for raping the guy. I know you won’t want to read this because you preach things backwards. You don’t know about the true moral way. Moral values are any thing you want them to be.
At 4-5 weeks, abortion can be done either by pill or by suction aspiration. You can learn more about abortions by pill here. This page deals with abortions by surgery. Abortions by suction are the usual type of surgical procedure at this time in pregnancy. They are done by first dilating a woman’s cervix , then injecting anesthetic into a woman’s vagina with a needle, then inserting a suction cannula and sucking out the embryo and placenta. then the uterus is scraped to remove any leftover material. Abortion providers call these the “products of conception.” The suction cannula either pulls apart the developing embryo or sucks it out whole, and it dies in the bottle of blood from the abortion.
The risks of an abortion at 4-5 weeks are the same as the risks of an abortion done later in the first trimester.
— Infection
— Damage to the cervix which can lead to later miscarriage
___ Scar tissue in the womb which can prevent a future pregnancy from implanting
—- perforation (cutting) of the uterine wall or cervix which may be mild or severe
An ultrasound is recommended to check whether you have a potentially fatal condition called an ectopic pregnancy. In this type of pregnancy, the baby forms in the fallopian tubes. If you have this condition and you have an abortion, the embryo won’t be removed. Instead, the embryo will continue developing in the tube, which will eventually rupture. This can cause fatal hemorrhaging.
The only way to rule out an ectopic pregnancy is through an ultrasound. If the abortion clinic you call does not provide ultrasounds before their abortions, consider going elsewhere. One place we you can get a free ultrasound is a crisis pregnancy center. Remember, if the abortion clinic does do ultrasounds before abortion, the clinic will charge you, whereas an ultrasound at a crisis pregnancy center is free. You can locate a center here.
These centers are staffed by volunteers who deal with women who have difficult pregnancies and are considering abortion. Some centers, such as CareNet, (US) are religiously affiliated. Birthright centers (international) are not. Either type of center will give you information about abortion either by pill or by surgery, information you may not get in the abortion clinic. Keep in mind that abortion clinics are only in existence because they sell abortions. Even if the staff there is well-meaning, they can only stay in business if they make enough profit. At Planned Parenthood, abortion accounts for one third of their annual income. Freestanding abortion clinics depend on selling abortions in order to stay open. Their doctors and managers get a high salary from abortions. In a way, going to an abortion clinic for advice is like asking a Subaro dealer if you should buy a Subaro or a Ford. Most likely, they will present abortion in a positive light. Sometimes it’s best to get as many perspectives as you can, which is why go to a crisis pregnancy center can be a good option to consider. Crisis pregnancy centers are staffed by volunteers. All of their services are free. They are charities that depend on donations from supporters, not money from those who go there. Therefore, they have no financial interest in the decision you make. Some pro-choice activists have said that pregnancy centers are set up to dissuade women from having abortions. This is only partly true. The women at these clinics are volunteers and some of them do have an anti-abortion mindset. Yet they will respect your decision. Going to a pregnancy centers does not mean you can’t have an abortion later. No one can prevent you from having an abortion if you choose to do so.
The embryo
This is a picture of an embryo at 5 weeks
It is just beginning to take on a human form.
Below is a picture of an embryo at 4 weeks. You can see the developing spine.
Here is some information about how developed these embryos are. This fetal development timeline traces the growth of an embryo from conception onwards.
Day 20 (less than one month): Foundations of the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system are already established
Day 21: The heart begins to beat
Day 28 (4 weeks old) The back bone and muscles are forming. Arms, legs, eyes and ears have begun to show.
Day 30: At 1 month (4 weeks) old , the embryo is 10,000 times larger than the original fertilized egg – and developing rapidly. The heart is pumping increasing quantities of blood through the circulatory system. The placenta forms a unique barrier that keeps the mother’s blood separate while allowing food and oxygen to pass through to the embryo.
Day 35 (5 weeks):5 Fingers can be discerned on the hand. The eyes darken as pigment is produced.
Day 40 (end of 5th week): Brain waves can be detected and recorded
Just because the baby does not look fully human does not mean that it isn’t one. As a matter of fact, referring to the embryo as “it” is inaccurate- sex is determined at conception. Therefore an embryo is already male or female. he or she may not look like a full term baby, but neither does a full term baby look like an adult. As we go through life, our appearance changes.
The decision to have an abortion is ultimately up to you. But keep in mind that abortion destroys a life that has already begun. It stops a heart from beating. It destroys a developing body, the body of the baby. And it can be damaging to your life and health. Even though deaths from surgical abortions this early are extremely rare, an infection can still be serious. Abortions by pill have caused over 14 deaths in the US alone.
Below is a picture of anesthesia being injected after dilation of the cervix. The woman’s legs are blurred out.

Partial birth abortions, where the baby is killed while partly outside the woman’s body (see illustration on left) have been illegal for close to a decade. It’s easy to forget the battle that was waged between pro-life and pro-abortion forces. Pro-lifers depicted a method of abortion so horrible it made the average person shudder – the vast majority of Americans were against partial-birth abortion. So pro-choicers had to come up with their own strategy – they claimed that the wording of the bill describing partial-birth abortions was so vague that it would ban all abortions in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Some even claimed it would ban abortions in the 1st trimester. This way, they could put forward the argument that the partial-birth abortion ban would actually unlimited abortion in the United States – for their gullible followers, this was a way to defend something that no one in their right mind could defend. Here is a quote from Gloria Feldt:
“The language in the abortion ban statutes is sweeping and, as the Supreme Court recognized in Sternberg, could be used to prosecute doctors for providing a wide range of common and safe pre-viability procedures… If the federal law is eventually upheld by a changed Supreme Court – as is their plan – an ideologically committed Justice Department will be armed with a broadly worded statute that can be used to prosecute doctors for a dangerously wide range of pre-viability abortions, whether or not Roe is overturned.”
Well, eventually after many false starts, the bill passed, it was found constitutional, and, believe it or not, abortion continues. Abortions are still done in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters by other methods. Of course they aren’t illegal. And pro-choice activists knew all the time that they wouldn’t be. They simply lied, using whatever argument was most likely to sway their gullible followers.

Day 1: Sperm joins with ovum, to form one cell smaller than a grain of salt. The new life has inherited 23 chromosomes from each parent, 46 in all. This one cell contains the complex genetic blueprint for every detail of human development – the child’s sex, hair and eye color, height, skin tone
Days 3 – 4: The fertilized egg travels down the fallopian tube into the uterus, where the lining has been prepared for implantation
Days 5 – 9: During this time, the fertilized egg implants itself in the rich lining of the uterus and begins to draw nourishment.
Days 10 – 14: The developing embryo signals its presence through placental chemicals and hormones, preventing the mother from menstruating
Day 20: Foundations of the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system are already established
day 21-25
Day 21: The heart begins to beat
Day 28: The back bone and muscles are forming. Arms, legs, eyes and ears have begun to show.
Day 30: At 1 month old, the embryo is 10,000 times larger than the original fertilized egg – and developing rapidly. The heart is pumping increasing quantities of blood through the circulatory system. The placenta forms a unique barrier that keeps the mother’s blood separate while allowing food and oxygen to pass through to the embryo.
Day 35:5 Fingers can be discerned on the hand. The eyes darken as pigment is produced.
day 37-40
Day 40: Brain waves can be detected and recorded
Week 6: The liver is now taking over the production of blood cells, and the brain begins to control movement of muscles and organs. The mother is about to miss her 2nd period and has probably confirmed that she is pregnant.
Week 6
Week 7: The embryo begins to move spontaneously. The jaw forms, including teeth buds in the gums. Soon the eyelids will seal to protect the embryo’s developing light-sensitive eyes, and will reopen at about the 7th month
week 7
Week 8: At a little more than an inch long, the developing life is now called a fetus – Latin for “young one” or “offspring.” Everything is now present that will be found in a fully developed adult. The heart has been beating for more than a month, the stomach produces digestive juices and the kidneys have begun to function. 40 muscle sets begin to operate in conjunction with the nervous system. The fetus’s body responds to touch, although the mother will not be able to feel movement until the 4th or 5th month.
Week 9: Fingerprints are already evident in the skin. The fetus will curl its fingers around an object placed in the palm of its hand.
week 9-10
Week10: The uterus has now doubled in size. The fetus can squint, swallow and wrinkle its forehead.
Week 10
Week 11: At this time, the fetus is about 2 inches long. Urination occurs. The face has assumed a baby’s profile, and muscle movements are becoming more coordinated
Week 12
Week 12: The fetus now sleeps, awakens and exercises its muscles energetically – turning its head, curling its toes, and opening and closing its mouth. The palm, when stroked, will make a tight fist. The fetus breathes amniotic fluid to help develop its respiratory system.
Week13: Fine hair has begun to grow on the head, and sexual differentiation has become apparent
Month 4: By the end of this month, the fetus is 8 to 10 inches in length and weighs a half pound or more. The mother will probably start to “show” now. The ears are functioning, and there is evidence that the fetus hears quite a bit: the mother’s voice and heartbeat as well as external noises. The umbilical cord has become an engineering marvel, transporting 300 quarts of fluids per day and completing the round-trip of fluids every 30 seconds.
14 weeks
Month 5: Half the pregnancy has now passed, and the fetus is about 12 inches long. The mother has definitely begun to feel movement by now. If a sound is especially loud or startling, the fetus may jump in reaction to it
Week 16- 4th monthWeek 20 (5th month)
Month 6: Oil and sweat glands are functioning. The delicate skin of the growing baby is protected from the fetal waters by a special ointment called “vernix.” If the baby were born in this month and given the proper care, he would survive.
Month 7: The baby now uses the 4 senses of vision, hearing, taste and touch. He can recognize his mother’s voice.
Month 7
Month 8: The skin begins to thicken, with a layer of fat stored underneath for insulation and nourishment. Antibodies increasingly build up. The baby absorbs a gallon of amniotic fluid per day; the fluid is completely replaced every 3 hours.
Month 9: Toward the end of this month, the baby is ready for birth. The average duration of pregnancy is 280 days from the 1st day of the mother’s last menstrual period, but this varies. Most babies (85% to 95%) are born somewhere between 266 and 294 days. By this time the infant normally weighs 6 to 9 pounds and his heart is pumping 300 gallons of blood per day. He is fully capable of life outside the womb.

When a bill requiring minors getting abortions to inform their parents was being considered, a blogger posted some stories from teenagers speaking out either in favor or against the bill. This young man was the father of an aborted baby. He argues against the bill, believing minors should not have to tell their parents:
“My girlfriend Jenay had an abortion and the baby was mine. I met her at John Muir Middle School in Oakland. We were both 14. She was 15 when she had an abortion….
“She had the abortion because she didn’t want her father to hate her. She didn’t actually know if he really would have hated her, but they had some talks in the past and he told her she should wait to have sex and that he would be disappointed if she got pregnant…..
After she had the abortion I felt really bad and relieved at the same time.I felt bad because we killed my son or daughter. I was relieved because I didn’t have to go through the drama that might have occurred with my family and I if they found out.”
He seems to realize that a baby died in the abortion, his own son or daughter. He doesn’t seem to care very much however. But when pro-lifers say that teenagers should get the consent of their parents or at least have to notify them before they get an abortion, pro-choicers insist that teens already tell their parents that the only teens who don’t are those in abusive families. This girl didn’t involve her parents in the decision because she was afraid they would be disappointed with her –not because they were abusive; they do not threaten her, they were nonviolent. She could’ve gone to her parents, and this may have had a different outcome if she had. At the very least, she would not have had to go through a major surgical procedure alone at 15, and been forced to handle any possible aftereffects or complications in secret. It is hard to understand how this is in the best interests of minors.
