Abortion guide published by Playboy describes abortion

In a book entitled The Abortion Guide: A Handbook for Women and Men and published by Playboy Paperbacks, there are descriptions of abortion procedures. This is what Playboy thinks women and men need to know about a first trimester procedure:

“The length of gestation is one factor that bears upon dilation. The longer a woman has been pregnant, the more tissue there is to be removed…

The cannula is inserted into the uterus, the suction machine is turned on, and the contents of the uterus are withdrawn. The sensation produced is again cramping, mild to severe and similar to that of menstruation. There may also be a tugging or pulling sensation.

After suctioning, the uterus may be explored with a curette (a spoon -like instrument) to make certain it is completely empty. Suction may be continued for another minute or so, and this completes the abortion procedure… The procedure may last from 2 to 10 minutes.… Any lingering cramps will subside in about 20 minutes.”

The book describes a D&E this way:

“Dilation and suction are employed as they are in early abortion. In addition to suction, however, forceps (grasping instruments) are used to remove fetal tissue… The contents of the uterus are removed by suction and forceps, which are used alternately until the uterus is completely empty… The tugging and pulling sensations are greater than in early abortion, and there is a greater sense of pressure. Heavier cramping occurs near the end of the procedure as the uterus begins to contract.”

Abortion worker: “God will forgive you”

What one postabortion teenager says her abortion counselor told her when she asked her about God:

“God’s not going to do anything. He’ll forgive you if that’s your issue. Really, it’s not wrong because the fetus isn’t human. You’re six weeks pregnant, and you need to make a decision now.”

Julia C Loren The Note on the Mirror: Pregnant Teenagers Tell Their Stories (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Zondervan Publishing House, 1990) 62

There was no reason for the clinic worker to tell the teen that she had to choose an abortion “now”. Abortion is legal in every state beyond 12 weeks.

Book to train abortion counselors: Abortion takes “Courage and strength”

A book written for abortion counselors says:

“Many women requesting abortions are married and want to use abortion to aid in child spacing or to prevent additional children after the desired family size has been reached…

Unlike an unmarried teenager, a mature married woman may be able to afford another child and would suffer no social stigma if the pregnancy were carried to term. With circumstances so favorable to pregnancy, choosing an abortion takes courage and strength. Here the counselor might be a valuable ally in helping the woman follow through on her own feelings and needs.

If she feels her infant care days are blissfully over, if she is savoring freedom from family responsibilities, if she feels her family’s finances or energies are already stretched thinly enough, the alternative of abortion may be her preferred choice and should be supported.”

Abortion clinic worker calls adoption “violent”

Abortion clinic counselor Joss Shawyer compared:

“the traumatic results of adoptions with the comparatively simple remedy of early, safe abortion. In my view, there is no contest… Adoption is a violent act, a political act of aggression toward a woman who has supposedly offended the sexual mores by committing the unforgivable act of not suppressing her sexuality.”

Marvin Olasky “The War on Adoption” National Review June 7, 1993

Post-Abortion woman becomes hysterical after learning about fetal development

Lara, who had an abortion, wrote about how she felt when she watched a program on fetal development:

“Oh the pain I felt, there are no words!!! MY GOD, MY GOD , WHAT HAVE I DONE ? I STARTED CRYING AND THEN SCREAMING . I ran in the bedroom and locked the door and cried for hours. I hit the walls and cried why???”

Imagine how shocking it to see a fully formed, fully developed baby when you thought you aborted a piece of tissue.

Woman says abortion workers called her baby “blob of tissue”

Nona Ellington was told her baby was:

“Only a blob of tissue. I was not prepared for how painful the abortion would be since it was only partial anesthesia. As a minor with my mother there, we were not informed of what the procedure entailed and my mother was not allowed in the counseling room beforehand to make an educated decision. My mom even tried to get into the room, but they sent her away. I was never introduced to the doctor. I only know he was a man.”

2 abortionists agree with 3- day waiting period

From a dialog between two abortionists:

David B Paintin: “I think 3 days’ delay between the assessment and doing the abortion is absolutely vital.”

Peter Diggory: “Yes, because occasionally a woman says she has changed her mind and wants to go on with the pregnancy. That is evidence that the counseling has been done well.”

David B Paintin: “Exactly. Women don’t change their minds during the assessment session, but only in the ensuing 2 or 3 days.”

Abortion: Medical Progress and Social Implications, CIBA Foundation Symposium 115 (London: Pitman, 1985) 13

These abortionists actually seem to care about the women coming to them for abortions, and want them to be sure about their choices. It is rare to see abortionists this concerned for their patients. But the words of these two doctors show that a waiting period is good medical practice.

Former abortion worker: We never showed ultrasound

Former abortion worker Brenda Pratt-Shafer wrote:

“The abortionist knows that if the mother knew there was a heartbeat or saw the fetus (baby) on the ultrasound, she would probably change her mind about the abortion. When an ultrasound was performed at the abortion clinic, the screen was turned away from the mother and the sound was turned off so the mother could not hear or see it.”

Woman describes abortion “counseling”

One woman went to Planned Parenthood and was told she was pregnant. This is the “counseling” she received:

At her initial appointment with Planned Parenthood, she and her boyfriend were told they couldn’t have a baby because “you’re too young, you have no money, you aren’t married.

They said we couldn’t tell our parents because it would disappoint them. I said I would consider placing the baby for adoption. The counselor’s response was, ‘Oh, my God, you could never do that. That’s the cruelest thing you could ever do to a baby.’ I started crying and said, ‘I’m adopted.’ Her response was, ‘I don’t care; that’s still the cruelest thing to do to a child.’

Dunn said she and her boyfriend were given no information about fetal development, alternatives to abortion or the physical and emotional risks of abortion.

“There were no connotations of anything bad about the abortion, only about having the baby. I was crying and pacing around the room, and the counselor was yelling at me — she raised her voice — ‘You can’t have a baby.’ … There was not a drop of compassion; she was very cold.”

Blob of tissue at four months?

Victoria from Pennsylvania told the story of her third abortion. Her Planned Parenthood counselor told her her child was a “blob of tissue”, even though she was 4 months along:

“My last abortion was done at four months. I felt there was no way out, I felt trapped. I was dropped off at Planned Parenthood, and went in alone, and petrified.

At that abortion mill, I was told that “it’s the best thing to do, you won’t feel anything” and it’s only “a blob of tissue.” The nurse escorted me to the “procedure room.” The room was cold, with a distinct smell. While waiting for the pain meds to kick in, I saw in the corner a large canister with a long tube and attached on the end was a very sharp object. Then I heard the sucking machine. The doctor took that tube with the sharp object attached and shoved it up inside of me with such force that I couldn’t breathe. The pain medicine never kicked in. I was crying, telling them the pain medicine isn’t helping. I felt everything. I begged the nurse to help me, to stop. The pain was unbelievable! No one listened. They just continued to suck my baby through that tube into pieces.”
