Only 45% of pregnant teens tell their parents, studies say

A somewhat old statistic. Make of it what you will.

“Statistics say that 45% of pregnant teens tell their parents.”

The other 55%, apparently, have an abortion without telling their parents.

Claire Culwell: Abortion survivor

Claire Culwell tells her story:

“My birth mother was 13 years old at the time she became pregnant with me. Her mother took her straight to an abortion clinic where she had a surgical abortion. After thinking she had “fixed the problem,” a few weeks later she realized her belly was still growing. Her mother took her back to the abortion clinic where she learned that she had been pregnant with twins…One was aborted; One survived.

My life is a miracle and I would be selfish to keep this GIFT of life to myself. I want to tell everyone what a gift I and even they have been given!! I want to encourage them to seek alternatives to abortion because I would never want any woman/man to go through the grief and the pain that my birth mother went through simply because she didn’t know she had any other option…

My life is a testimony that there are wonderful alternatives to abortion (such as adoption in my case) and an accident/unwanted child still deserves life…even a child with disabilities. I was born 2 1/2 months early, weighed 3 lbs 2 oz, had dislocated hips and club feet. I had to wear casts on my feet, a harness and eventually a body cast. The abortion still affects me today. All that to say, LIFE IS STILL WORTH IT.If my life can touch just one person who has had an abortion or considering an abortion or adoption, then I am fulfilling my purpose in the pro-life movement!

I will not be silent because each mother and child are in the same place my biological mother, my twin and I were in 22 years ago and I am here to say THERE IS HOPE and there are options!”

Bodies of babies found in Missouri Basement

Below is a screenshot from a video that shows the bodies of two aborted babies who were found in a basement in Missouri. The house had been owned by an illegal abortionist who practiced fifty years ago.  LifeSiteNews covered the story, and I will quote from them:

Contractors recently hired to renovate the old home discovered in the basement the remains of two tiny babies floating in a preservative solution inside two dusty jars with screw-on lids.

“I know they did medical procedures and stuff,” said the property’s owner William C. Neff to Connecttristates.com. “I was told that they helped a lot of ladies. That’s all I know.”

The contractors were examining the basement on Wednesday when they made the grisly discovery. The remains of the babies were found underneath an antiquated medical examining table in a ceramic container that was covered in rags.

If you look closely, you can see the arms and legs of the baby in the jar on the left. You can see the profile of a baby, (head down) his/her head, body, legs, etc. in the jar on the right. You can make out the shape of the face (side view) if you look closely at the bottom of the jar.

There is an interview at the end of the video done by Channel 7, a local news station, but they did not show the bodies of the babies- the jar was held out of sight. One reporter referred to the babies as “specimens.” There was little acknowledgement of their humanity.

Pro-choice author: tide is shifting in pro-lifers’ favor

Katha Pollitt  joined Politics and Prose to promote her new pro-abortion book, PRO. She gave her reasons for writing it:

“I wrote this book because all you have to do is open up the newspaper and see the way things are going…Since, 2010 when the Republicans were so successful there have been 205 new abortion restrictions passed in the states, and, even more than the restrictions- the discourse. You can just feel it shifting. You can feel it shifting toward the anti-abortion side of language and the greater and greater defensiveness of the pro-choice side.”

See her say it here.

Young woman chooses life after sidewalk counselor and crisis pregnancy center intervene

On this Thanksgiving, I would like to tell a story of pro-life victory, a story of life.

A young woman named Diana told the following story on the “Stories from the Sidewalk” series.

“I’ll never forget the day I found out I was pregnant. It was October 7, 2012. I had just returned from a retreat when I took a pregnancy test. I couldn’t believe it. I was active at Texas State’s Catholic Center and was a member of the Catholic sorority. I couldn’t let anyone find out I was pregnant – what would they say?

The baby’s father didn’t want a child and said he would pay for an abortion. Without his support, afraid of what others would say, and since I was expecting to graduate in just a few months, I scheduled an abortion.

I was the only person in the waiting room. I was really scared. The doctor had me sign some papers that he went through quickly. The examining room was dim and cold. There weren’t any pictures or posters like most doctor’s offices. He couldn’t confirm the pregnancy, so he asked me to reschedule. The next few days, I tried to live life as usual, but kept thinking of that little person inside me. Fortunately, one of my sorority sisters told me about [The John Paul II Life Center]. I didn’t want to go, but eventually, I did.

The JPII Life Center was very different from the abortion facility. It was warm… welcoming. Instead of doing the sonogram to determine how much they would charge me, they gave me one for free. I’ll never forget that sonogram. The doctor told me to lay very still. Then, he showed me the most breathtaking sight I had ever seen – a tiny pulse of red and blue. My baby’s heartbeat! I was only about 5 weeks pregnant, but my baby’s heart was already beating. I knew I couldn’t abort my child.

But later, reality hit. My mom made it very clear that she wanted nothing to do with me or my baby. If I didn’t have an abortion, I would lose my cell phone, my car, my tuition, my apartment. Without the help of my parents, there was no way I could finish school or support myself. How could I take care of a baby?

I choked back tears as I made an appointment at another abortion clinic. Thankfully, God placed the right person at exactly the right time in exactly the right place. As I drove up to [the abortion clinic], I saw a familiar face praying outside the clinic. Then, I heard my name.

“Diana, what are you doing here?” It was Judy [a Sidewalk Counselor and also a counselor] from The JPII Life Center. I ran up to her and was greeted with a warm embrace. I told her my situation and she welcomed me into her home. Within a few hours, she, her husband and The JPII Life Center found me a place to stay and help with tuition.

I didn’t know it at the time, but while this was going on, Drew Mariani and the listeners at Relevant Radio were also praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for me and my parents.

When I finally worked up the courage to tell my father, he reacted completely different from what I expected. He said he would stand behind my decision. And, he insisted that my mother do the same.

After that day, I knew everything would be ok. Since then, I have graduated from Texas State and gave birth to Enrique, who is loved by me and his grandparents. Without The JPII Life Center, [Relevant Radio and the Coalition for Life], I would not have my baby’s life – or even my own. You see, if I’d gone through with that abortion, not only would it have ended my son’s life, I would have taken my own life. [They] saved us both…
and I am forever grateful.”

Diana’s story shows how even a religious person can have an abortion when the stress of an unplanned pregnancy becomes overwhelming. Her story is a good reason why priests and pastors should talk about abortion and educate their congregations not just about abortion facts but also about places then can go if they become pregnant.  Religious pregnant women often have the added stress of fearing what their congregation will think if they have a baby.  This leads many frightened Christians to have abortions. With abortion such an easy option, always available, people panic.  Always support mothers, whether or not they are married. They have made a brave choice.

Parental involvement laws reduce abortion rate by almost 19%, study says

“… A 1996 study revealed that “parental involvement laws appear to decrease minors’ demands for abortion by 13 to 25%.” A 2008 study showed that parental consent laws reduce the minor abortion rate by 18.7%. With the loving support of their parents, many young women are able to bring their babies into the world and not face the physical risks and emotional devastation that abortions can bring.”

Article claims that 80 – 90% of women would not have abortions if they were illegal

Dr. Richard R. Parlour and Dr. James H. Ford, MD examined nine studies about women and abortion and wrote, in 1974, that the studies:

“showed that 80 to 90 percent of the women who have legally induced abortions would not opt for the abortion if it were illegal.”

Family Planning officials beat Violators of China’s One Child Policy

Most people are familiar with the Chinese One Child policy, which prohibits families from having more than one baby. Now occasionally extended to allow for 2 children, the program has a history of allowing, and, indeed, promoting, kidnapping and forced abortion.. The official policy calls for a fine, which is often many times the couples combined yearly income. They are usually fired from their jobs and their “extra” child cannot go to school.

In this case cited in “China’s One Child Policy: the Government’s Massive Crime against Women and Unborn Babies” Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights, Committee of Foreign Affairs House Of Representatives 112th Congress, September 22, 2001, Family-Planning Officials go to collect that fine.

“At about 8 o’clock in the evening of March 7, 2008, Changzheng Luo [Vice Sec. of the local Subdistrict Office] headed about 30 [Family-Planning] Officials (most of them were local rogues) to Xin Liu’s home and urged him to open the door. Xiandong Luo, Xin’s elder sister’s husband who lived next door heard the sound and hurried out. When asked what they were coming for, the officials answered: “We are here to collect the social compensation fee for your extra child. Open the door, or else we will break in!”

On hearing that, Xing Liu (Xin’s younger brother) also got up from bed. He walked up to the door and asked the further identification. They refused to reveal their identities and just kept threatening. Later Xing recognized that one tall man was from Zaoshi Subdistrict Office and asked, “are you working in Zaoshi Subdistrict Office?” He answered, yes.” So Xing opened the door.

Changzheng Luo rushed in with those officials. He dragged out Xin’s wife, Binglan Yang, and asked her to pay the fine for her extra child. Xin asked them to show their credentials and enforce the law in a civilized manner, but he was immediately met with a brutal mass brawl. At this sight, Xiandong Luo said, “no hitting!” But he was beaten as well. His face was smashed and broken by their weapon. Blood streamed down his face.

Afterwards, the man beating Xiandong Luo turned around and hit Xin’s temple with a glass bottle. Xin was stunned immediately and fell down on the ground. Blood streamed across his body. Xin’s mother (over 70 years old) lay down and held him with her arms, but they kicked her abdomen Xin’s younger brother’s wife locked the door and intended to report to the police.

They asked her to open the door and let them leave. She refused and was slapped. Then they forced her to hand over the key.”

The police were called and eventually arrived, but did nothing. They did not interfere with the Family Planning officials or condemn their actions. Several victims of the beatings had to be hospitalized.

College students have their babies and succeed despite proabortion pressure

An article in The American Feminist talked about how difficult it is for pregnant college students to have their babies because they get so much pressure to abort, and because they are often made to feel they must choose between their babies and their education. The article says:

“Student parents on campuses across the country often find that practical resources  and emotional support are missing.”

The article quotes student parent Amanda Sykes:

“I was told repeatedly that I would never be able to be both a mother and a student; I would have to  choose….

Classmates, certain acquaintances, and even some perfect strangers told me that I would regret having my son because he would ruin my life. They were wrong. My son, and now my child due in February, have made me more motivated than ever to be a success in all things.”

Another student, identified only as Levesque, talked about the pressure she got from family to abort her child:

“They said I would end up as trailer trash and on welfare because I couldn’t possibly do it all. I wanted to get an abortion and my family wanted me to [get an abortion] too. I even had an appointment, but my boyfriend spent hours on the phone trying to talk me out of it. If he had encouraged me to get an abortion, too, I would have done it….

My family, immediate and extended, save for only a few individuals, heavily pushed abortion, telling me that I was a disappointment and I had so much potential that I was wasting. I graduated this past May at age 23 with a BA in sociology, magna cum laude, and the highest GPA in the department. I am now the first individual on that pro-abortion side of my family to graduate from college.”

Chaunie Brusie “Good News or Bad News? Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Make a Difference” The American Feminist Winter 2011/2012

These two stories show that, with support, college students can have their children and still graduate. They also highlight the immense pressure that college students can be under to abort their babies.
