Abortion and Physical Pain

“We were surprised to note that the majority of women reported moderate or more discomfort during the procedure; we had not expected as many women to report severe pain.”

Borgatta L, Nickinovich D. Pain during Early Abortion Journal of Reproductive Medicine 1997 May; 42 (5): 287 – 93

Abortion Is Not “Merely Suctioning out A Mass of Cells”

Dr. Bernard Nathanson, former abortionist stated:

“In the early 70s we began to use machinery, apparatus, and instruments which allowed us to finally put a larger and much more sophisticated window into the womb.

But for the first time as a physician and as an ethical person, I began to understand that more was involved in an abortion than merely suctioning out a mass of cells, a few grams of tissue. I began to be aware that there was something here which had a moral density to it which commanded respect.”

Bernard Nathanson, cited in Abortion: a Reflection on Life (Fort Lauderdale, Florida: Coral Ridge Ministries, 1989) P 5

Woman Pressured into Giving up her Baby

“My family would not support my decision to keep my baby. My boyfriend said he would give me no emotional or financial help whatsoever. All the people that mattered told me to abort. When I said I didn’t want to, they started listing reasons why I should. They said it would be detrimental to my career, and my health, and that I would have no social life and no future. But I actually keep it alone? I started feeling like maybe I was crazy to want to keep it.

I finally told everyone that I would have the abortion just to get them off my back. But inside I still didn’t want to have the abortion. Unfortunately, when the abortion day came I shut off my inside feelings. I was scared to not do it because of how my family and boyfriend felt. I’m so angry at myself for giving in to the pressure of others. I just felt so alone in my feelings to have my baby.”

David Reardon, Aborted Women Silent No More P31 quoted in Randy Alcorn “Pro-life Answers to Pro-Choice Arguments” (Sisters, Oregon: Multnomah Publishers, 2000)

Post-Abortion Women More Likely to Be Pro-life Activists

An article in Planned Parenthood’s family planning perspectives gives the results of sociologist Donald Granberg study of the nation’s two largest groups supporting and opposing abortion. Of National Right to Life female membership 245,000 have had abortions, of NARAL’s membership 39,000 had abortions. Therefore:

women who had abortions are six times more likely to be pro-life activists than pro-choice activists

Donald Granberg “The Abortion Activists” Family Planning Perspectives, July – August 1991, 157 – 163

These statistics are from the early 90s, but there are still very many post-abortion women in the pro-life movement.

Religion Has Nothing To Do With When Life Begins

12 weeks

“… I submit that religion, philosophy, and private opinion have nothing to do with this issue. I further submit that it is a commonplace of modern biology, known to every high-school student and no doubt to you the reader as well, that the life of every individual organism, human or not, begins when the chromosomes of the sperm fuse with the chromosomes of the ovum to form a new DNA complex that thenceforth directs the ontogenesis of the organism…. [T]he onset of individual life is not a dogma of the Church but a fact of science.”

Former New York Mayor Ed Koch on Abortion

Ultrasound at 10 weeks

“I support Roe versus Wade wholeheartedly. And I do so even when acknowledging to myself that at some point, perhaps even after the first trimester, abortion becomes infanticide…”

Senator Lyn Allison on Abortion

Pro-choice Senator LYN ALLISON

“It is galling listening to the men, and it is mostly men, who have such contempt for women who terminate unwanted pregnancies, who have neither the compassion nor the understanding of the huge and, for many, daunting task of taking an embryo the size of a grain of rice to adulthood.”

Stephanie Peatling “One in three Women Have An Abortion, and I am one of them” Sydney Morning Herald, Feb 9, 2006

In reality, polls show that women are more pro-life than men. A typical abortion is done on an unborn baby at 7-11 weeks. Here is an 8 week old unborn baby.

And here is what it looks like when an unborn baby of this age is aborted:

Kristen Hawkins on Helping Pregnant Women

Students for Life of America president Kristan Hawkins:

“ I can’t tell you how many times women have said to me that they wouldn’t have had their abortion if only one person had encouraged them not to. Only a few kind words could have saved her baby. And you can do that, you can be that person or you can help empower a young person or someone else to do it on your behalf.”
