Abortionist: Doctor Is a “Technician” Performing a Task

From one abortionist:

“I’ve [aborted] tens and tens of thousands of women, and I know so little about so many of them- most of them…How could I? In a sense the doctor is only a tradesperson, a technician performing a task, like any other.”

Don Sloan, M.D. with Paula Hartz, Abortion: a Doctor’s Perspective, a Woman’s Dilemma (New York: Donald I Fine Inc., 1992)

So much for Roe versus Wade’s  declaration that abortion should be a matter “between a woman and her doctor.” Usually the woman does not even see the doctor until she is on the operating table – and then not again after the procedure.

60 Minutes On The National Abortion Federation and Clinic Safety

TheNational Abortion Federation claims that they

“ensure continued high standards for safe, quality abortion care. We meet this charge in three ways: offering continuing medical education to reproductive healthcare providers, chronicling abortion related complications, and establishing standards of care.”

1991 annual report: National Abortion Federation

Mark Crutcher  “Lime 5: Exploited by Choice ” (Denton, Texas: Life Dynamics Incorporated, 1996

The CBS news show 60 Minutes had a story about a Maryland abortion clinic that killed at least two women. 60 Minutes. asked Barbara Radford, Executive Director of The National Abortion Federation, if she knew of the problems in that facility:

She said NAF was aware of them, but decided to remain silent because “This is the last thing we need. We had hoped that it wouldn’t get national publicity because of the political nature of all this.”

“60  Minutes reported that they discovered other pro-choice activists who also knew about the problems at this clinic, but who remained silent out of fear that the bad publicity would prompt state legislators to start regulating clinics. The 60 Minutes reporter, Marilyn Viero, pointed out that even though these laws could make clinics safer, abortion advocates usually fight them. This was reaffirmed when she interviewed pro-choice state senator Mary Boergers who said: “there’s only so much of a willingness to try to push a group like the pro-choice movement to do what I think is the responsible thing to do because they then treat you as if you’re the enemy.”

National Abortion Federation Puts Saving Money Ahead of Safety

The National Abortion Federation is an organization of abortion providers that without guidelines as to how abortion should be safe. According to abortionist Dr. Warren Hern:

“the NAF “has never pursued a serious program of standards implementation and program evaluation. Following good standards costs money. And people don’t want to do that.”

He admits that NAF has never implemented a system to monitor whether its facilities are following standards.

Woman Brings Baby’s Severed Head To Clinic

Lime 5 quoted the following story from the El Paso Times:

“Several days after [a Texas abortionist] struggled through a particularly difficult abortion, the patient’s mother returned to the abortion clinic upset and angry. She brought in a milk carton containing a 3 inch fetal head that her daughter had passed after she had massaged the girls abdomen to alleviate her pain. One employee stated, “I remember the eyes were bugging. That’s when I decided to quit.”

Woman’s Ovary Torn Loose During Abortion

The following account appeared in Mark Crutcher  “Lime 5: Exploited by Choice “ (Denton, Texas: Life Dynamics Incorporated, 1996) 26

“On February 27, 1990 “BJ” age 22, underwent an abortion by John Breaux 73. She awoke screaming during the abortion, and begged him to stop. He then had an employee clamp a hand over her mouth. She eventually went under again but awoke this time in a chair in the recovery room, with the bottom of her shirt drenched with blood. The next thing he remembered was the doctor carrying her to his car, after which a friend drove her to the hospital. A note sent by the doctor to the hospital described the abortion as “uneventful” and failed to disclose all the medications he had administered. Because the ligaments around BJ’s uterus had been severed and her right ovary torn loose, her uterus and ovaries had to be removed. The doctor who did the emergency surgery testified: “it would take a lot of force – an extreme amount of force – to do that kind of damage.” He noted that the perforation was 4 inches in length and had caused BJ to lose an incredible amount of blood. The medical board stated that, “having nearly eviscerated his patient and with her clearly in critical condition, he sent her to the hospital in a private car during rush hour… A more egregious example of incompetence and gross negligence is difficult to imagine.”

Planned Parenthood on the Downside of Performing Abortions in Clinics

Alexander Sanger, president of Planned Parenthood of New York City:

“Back in the early 70s, Planned Parenthood led the fight to get abortions to be done in outpatient clinics, and it seemed like a good idea at the time, a way of providing easy access to good, cheap care….but it turns out that it has led to a stigmatization of abortion, as something most doctors opt out of.”

Clinic Worker Quits after Run-In with Planned Parenthood

According to the Dallas Morning News, (Abortion rights activist resigns as clinic director; Taft cites differences with Routh Street owner, 2/2/1995 ), a Planned Parenthood of Dallas and Northeast Texas employee told the press they were not going to refer abortion patients to abortion clinic owner Charlotte Taft because she stated:

“We were hiding . . . some pieces of the truth about abortion that were threatening….Abortion “is a kind of killing, and most women seeking abortion know that.”

Planned Parenthood of Dallas and Northeast Texas, put off by Taft’s honesty, stopped referring patients to her.

Though the group’s president, Jim Roderick, acknowledged the leadership Ms. Taft had provided to abortion rights supporters in Dallas he added,

“I took great exception to statements about the pro-choice community not being completely honest with women. We did have great philosophical differences with her, not only in the statements she made . . . but with some of the changes in how they went about serving clients we were referring to them.”

On November 2, 2006, The Dallas Observer ran a story entitled, Charlotte’s Web,  stated that  on January 30, 1995

This prompted the paper to wonder:

“Did Taft resign voluntarily or was she forced out?”

The paper noted how Taft made some highly inflammatory remarks about the pro-choice movement in the local press, saying that the movement hadn’t been honest with women. She even called abortion “a kind of killing.”

The paper asked,

“Had Taft played right into the hands of anti-abortion zealots, adopting their very language as her own? Had she so betrayed the pro-choice community that she had to be sacrificed for the sake of themovement?”

Judge on Partial Birth Abortion Vs. Dismemberment Abortion

Judge Richard Posner of the Seventh Circuit, in ruling against the PBA (Partial Birth Abortion) ban, makes this point:

“From the standpoint of the fetus, and, I should think, of any rational person, it makes no difference whether, when the skull is crushed, the fetus is entirely within the uterus or its feet are outside the uterus. Yet the position of the feet is the only difference between committing a felony and performing an act that the states concede is constitutionally privileged…. [T]here is no meaningful difference between the forbidden and the privileged practice. No reason of policy or morality that would allow the one would forbid the other.”

Richard John Neuhaus “So What’s the Big Deal about Partial-Birth Abortion” : First Things: A Monthly Journal of Religion and Public Life June 2000. : 84.

In essence, Judge Posner is right. Both the D&X (partial birth) abortion procedure and the D&E (dismemberment) abortion procedure are violent and brutal to the unborn baby.

Here is a diagram of a partial birth abortion, where the baby is delivered up until the head and then killed. This procedure is now illegal.

And a D&E abortion. This procedure is still legal.
