J.M. Buchanan on “Pro-Life”

“I object to the monopolization of the term pro-life by groups whose agenda is to make abortion illegal and deny women the right and responsibility to decide this very personal matter. I am certainly not “antilife,” nor am I proabortion. I am for choice. The issue is whether women should have that freedom.”

Buchanan, J. M. (2012, Mar 07). Life and health. The Christian Century, 129, 3-3.

  1. In response to Buchanan: Murder is illegal, not a choice. 99% of women who find themselves pregnant exercised their choice. None of us get to exercise the consequences of our choices. You don’t get to unring the bell. You don’t get to “pursue your happiness” by denying another his life. Three or four months of discomfort and a once pregnant woman can make a right choice: pass that child (your discomfort) onto someone who genuinely cares. Society protects us from monsters. Don’t be a monster.
