Decision to have an abortion does not just affect the pregnant woman

“It is clear that the decision to have, or not to have an abortion does not affect the pregnant woman alone.  It determines whether or not a new member will be brought into the woman’s family, her living situation, and her community.  It’s happenstance to affect a wide range of others, favorably or unfavorably; their welfare and interests are at stake.”

Martha Brandt Batton Quoted in Callahan, Sidney and Daniel, editors “Abortion — Understanding Differences” New York: Plenum Press, 1984, page 90

Abortions are not done in a vacuum – there is a loss to society, a loss to the siblings of the aborted baby, and a loss to the father of the aborted child.
