Woman nearly dies after third abortion

One woman tells her story:

“The abortion clinic workers told me not to worry about it because they were just removing “a blob of tissue,” and I wouldn’t feel anything. However, the pain after the third abortion was excruciating, and I had to be rushed to the emergency room after the third day, because I was bleeding excessively and running a high fever.

The ER doctor told me that I might have a perforated uterus, and if that were the case, they would have to do a hysterectomy. I discovered later that my uterus had not been punctured, but that the abortion clinic had left some of the “fetal matter” (parts of the baby) and part of the placenta inside of me. Because of this, they had to do a D&C. I’m lucky to be alive today, for the doctor said if I had not come in when I did, I would’ve hemorrhage to death!”

Abortionist mistakes 26 week baby for 6 weeks

Pro-Life author Troy Clark, Ph.D. recounted the following story:

“Taranda,” age 17, went to a Family Planning Clinic for Reproductive Health for an abortion on December 22, 1989. Dr. Karen J Smiley misdiagnosed the pregnancy at 6 weeks and performed an abortion.

Four days later, Taranda gave birth to a one pound, critically ill infant girl in a hospital corridor. Taranda’s lawyer said, “She’s devastated, obviously. She would never have dreamed of having an abortion had she known it was 26 weeks old.” Taranda needed psychiatric care after her ordeal. The following news agencies reported her story:

Botched abortion of 7 month old baby puts teen in hospital

A pro-life book tells the story of a 16 year-old-woman who had a botched abortion.

“Francine,” age 16, went to the All Women’s Health Center for an abortion in August 1986. Abortionist Harold Ticton estimated the pregnancy at 3 months.

Upon removing the baby’s arm, he realized that the boy was actually 7 months. He stopped the procedure, but did not transport Francine to the hospital for 7 hours. Francine had the dead fetus removed by C-section, was admitted to the intensive care unit, and was hospitalized for over a week.

7  months, 28 weeks

An autopsy on the 28 week young baby attributed death to “partial dismemberment due to the suctioning during the abortion.” Tiction blamed Francine, saying that she gave him a wrong date for her last period, which led him to miscalculate the pregnancy as 12 weeks rather than 28 weeks. The following news agencies reported the story:

Third trimester baby bleeds to death after botched abortion

Pro-lifer Troy Clark, Ph.D, documented the following story

“Dorothy”, age 23, had an abortion at Family Planning Medical Clinic on October 30, 1987. The gestational age was misdiagnosed before the abortion was started. When trouble arose, she was transported to a hospital, where the gestational age was estimated to be 21 weeks. The abortion was completed.

An autopsy on the baby revealed a well-developed human being with no abnormalities other than injuries caused by abortion, including traumatic amputation of left arm at shoulder. The baby bled to death from the wound, with a lacerated area extending over 3 inches long and 2 inches wide. He had been 30 to 31 weeks of gestational age.”

Doctor sends botched abortion victim to hospital in car during rush hour

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has an article about a case where an abortionist nearly killed a woman. This was not the only operation Dr.  Scott R Barrett botched. He also killed at least one other woman:

“The degree of damage that Barrett caused to B.J. was almost unheard of. Barrett was utterly oblivious to the fact that he was suctioning B.J.’s abdominal organs out of her body. Then, having nearly eviscerated his patient and with her clearly in critical condition, he sent her to the hospital in a private car during rush hour. By the time she reached the operating table, she was moments away from bleeding to death. A more egregious example of incompetence and gross negligence is difficult to imagine.”

“An abortionist’s trial of tragedy records detail botched operations that; finally brought state action” St. Louis Post-Dispatch  08/02/92

Barrett was operating legally.

Abortion patient gets pelvic inflammatory disease and other problems

Randi, who had an abortion:

“It physically affected me a lot. I got really sick from it. I was looking for a job and I was run down during the summer and so I just felt really drained and exhausted by all that and then following that I got pelvic inflammatory disease and a bladder infection and a kidney infection that were all complicated by each other and laid me out for a couple of months. I had very severe cramps for a while…

I thought about it more selfishly. I thought about in terms of myself.”

OB/GYN comments on “surprising” number of legal abortion deaths

Shortly after abortions legalization, a prominent OB/GYN admitted that the death rate from legal abortion was high:

“The surprising number of maternal deaths and near deaths following legal abortion complications should alert all who do these operations that they are not to be undertaken without the same degree of preoperative evaluation and postoperative care rendered to other gynecologic procedures.”

Survey reveals high rate of abortion complications

Pro-choice people often claim that legalizing abortion made it safer. But:

“In an attempt to learn how pervasive the problem of serious abortion complications is, an American obstetrician surveyed 486 of his colleagues regarding their experience with abortion patients. 87% revealed they had hospitalized women with complications following legal abortions; 91% had treated patients for complications. 29 of the doctors reported patients of theirs dying from legally induced abortions.”

Young woman gets infection at Planned Parenthood

In his book on Planned Parenthood, George Grant interviewed two young women who had abortions there:

“Melinda Davies, and Cheryl Cook were best friends all through high school. During the summer following graduation, both girls became pregnant. “We decided to go into Planned Parenthood together. We didn’t want our parents to find out,” said Cheryl.”

Both girls had a D&E abortion at Planned Parenthood, but Melinda had problems afterwards,

“I had bladder infections, vaginal infections, and cervical infections, and my doctor couldn’t understand why. Finally, I had to tell him what I’d done. Thank goodness he was then able to treat the cause.” And what was the cause? “Well,” Melinda said, “apparently the doctor at Planned Parenthood did the procedure with unsterile instruments. The bacteria just wreaked havoc on my body.”

“Nobody told us that something like this could happen,” said Cheryl. “I feel like we were deceived.”

“We were,” agreed Melinda. “We really were. Abortion is a lousy gamble.”

Woman suffers peritonitis after abortion, almost dies

Cindy Ortegus, of Phoenix, Arizona talks about what happened after her legal abortion:

“The next five days were living hell for me as I contracted a gross infection called peritonitis. My fever soared rapidly and I remained in guarded condition for four days. One of the nurses said, “It’s going to take more than prayer to pull this one out of it.” At that moment I knew I was on the verge of death… The reason the infection had said it was due to the fact that the abortionist did not abort my entire baby the first time around, making it necessary to repeat the procedure.
