Rev: Pro-lifers make fetus “an idol”; should support abortion

Rev. Robert Buchanan:

“The biblical tradition also acknowledges that we human beings find it difficult to restrain ourselves from making idols that represent the divine. One of the early stories of conflict in this regard is that of the Golden Calf… I suggest that the sacred fetus is the modern equivalent of the Golden Calf. The sacred fetus has become an absolute around which a host of decisions are made. And these decisions become progressively more destructive. If the fetus is sacred, the mother is subservient, a view that is destructive to women.”

The Rev. Roger Buchanan, “The Modern Golden Calf,” Clergy Voices, June 1996, 5

The babies below are both 7 weeks old. Most abortions take place at this time or later. The first one is a healthy child in the womb at that age. The one underneath has been aborted. Is protecting these children making an idol out of them? Or is it justified?

Christian professor: Abortion is Ok because of Hiroshima

Beverly Wildung Harrison, professor of Christian ethics at the Union Theological Seminary:

“Presidents, members of Congress, and other leaders have made life or death decisions that resulted in thousands of deaths. Some of these decisions – such as the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki – are justified by many Americans, even if many deaths occurred. Other decisions were clearly mistakes. In 1988 a U.S. Navy officer in the Persian Gulf fired a missile into civilian airliner, killing 290 people, including 66 children. Somehow we can tolerate our leaders making life or death decisions affecting many lives when they are faced with difficult situations such as international aggression. We find understanding and empathy for them if they make a mistake – even if their decision brings death to other human beings, yet we don’t want to let a woman make a decision affecting only her own life and the life within her.”

Prochoicer compares pregnancy to rape, justifies abortion

Prochoicer Eileen McDonagh:

“Some might suggest that the solution to coercive pregnancy is simply for the woman to wait until the fetus is born, at which point its coercive imposition of pregnancy will cease. This type of reasoning is akin to suggesting that a woman being raped should wait until the rape is over rather than stopping the rapist…. the fetus is not innocent but instead aggressively intrudes on a woman’s body so massively that deadly force is justified to stop it.”

She acknowledges:

“Few people are going to be comfortable with the idea.”

Abortion is a “good procedure”

“Women who have abortions are good women. Abortion, when desired by a woman, is a good procedure. Abortion itself holds no moral weigh except in the context of its usage. Therefore, in order to change to stories in our heads we must resist forces that tell us that abortion as a procedure is bad, shameful, or not to be supported…Each and every one of us needs to stop apologizing for abortion. ”

Planned Parenthood director: abortion is a “sacred duty”

Melaney Linton, who was chosen to oversee Planned Parenthood Gulf coast, on his “sacred duty” to promote abortion:

“I am honored and humbled to be entrusted with such a sacred duty…I pledge to do everything in my power to fight back against the ideological attacks on Planned Parenthood and women, so that no teen will ever say she didn’t know how she got pregnant, no one will ever be denied basic reproductive health care, and no woman will ever be forced to bear children she cannot adequately support.”

As of 2012, Linton managed 13 abortion and abortion-referring centers in Southeast Texas and Louisiana, as well as the largest abortion clinic in America, located in Houston, Texas.

LifeNews adds:

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast alone performed over 12,000 abortions in 2010 and banked over $17 million – 49 percent of which came from taxpayer dollars. Linton will succeed Peter Durkin, who earned over $200,000 in 2010 by performing this “sacred duty.

Pro-choice activist compares abortion to curing cancer

Prochoicer Lana Clarke Phelan comments on doctors who don’t do abortions:

“Another cliche [used by doctors to refuse to do abortions] is the timeworn “life has begun and I cannot play god” bit, yet daily each doctor sees nothing unethical in excising a cancer, performing a vasectomy on a requesting male without question, or using antibiotics to frustrate the will of god regarding life and death.”

Carl Sagan speaks out on abortion, sperm and eggs

“Why isn’t it murder to destroy a sperm or egg?”

Carl Sagan

Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan, “Is It Possible to Be Pro-Life and Pro-Choice?” Parade, April 22, 1990, 4

Carl Sagan may be a scientist, but he is obviously not a geneticist or embryologist. Science teaches that life begins at conception – when the DNA from the mother and the father combined to form a unique, genetically distinct organism, which is a human being in an early stage of development.

Read quotes from medical textbooks affirming that life begins at conception here

Also, abortion kills an embryo or fetus, not a sperm or egg cell. By just 21 days after conception, the developing baby has a heartbeat. Very few abortions are done before this time.

Abortion brings a woman into “deeper communion” with God, says prochoicer

A Christian pro-choice activist said the following:

This is a picture of what abortion looks like at nine weeks
This is a picture of a foot left behind after an abortion at nine weeks

“More than anything else, being able to choose and being affirmed in that choice gives a woman peace. Knowing that God is with her in the abortion decision and that the church upholds her moral authority to make the decision brings a woman into deeper communion with the One from whom all life springs. It becomes a part of that list of things that cannot separate us from the love of God.”

The Religious Coalition for Abortion Rights is active in supporting legalized abortion. It is an organization made up of religious leaders and lay people who oppose pro-lifers trying to protect unborn babies.

Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC Mocks victims of abortion

LifeNews covers how Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC mocked unborn babies by deliberately breaking a model of a fertilized egg and acting as though unformed fertilized eggs were what was destroyed in abortion. She said:

“Oh, no. That might be bad. I seemed to have popped open the fertilized egg. We’ll put that back together. But the very idea that this would constitute a person, right? And that some set of constitutional rights should come to this.  Look, I get that that is a particular kind of faith claim. It’s not associated with science. But the reality is that if this turns into a person, right, there are economic consequences, right? The cost to raise a child, $10,000 a year up to $20,000 a year. When you’re talking about what it actually costs to have this thing turn into a human, why not allow women to make the best choices that we can with as many resources and options instead of trying to come in and regulate this process?”

Steven Ertelt  MSNBC Talking Head Calls Babies “Things That Might Turn Into Humans” LifeNews 3/25/13

In reality, it is babies like the one below that are being aborted. The baby in the picture is a weeks old. The 2nd picture shows what a baby this age looks like after an abortion. The typical abortion is done around this age.

Also, even if babies were being aborted when they were still in the state of being fertilized eggs, life would still be taken by abortion. Science teaches that life begins at conception.

Pro-choice writer: movie highlights “strength and bravery” of abortionists

“… The 1996 HBO movie If These Walls Could Talk, in which Cher (Cher!) plays an abortion provider who is extremely matter-of-fact about her work right up-to-the-minute  that she is shot by an anti-choice protester, does not have to work hard to highlight the strength and bravery of those who risk their lives to provide women with this essential choice.”

How much “strength and bravery” does it take to do this to a baby 10 or 20 times a day?
