Prayer for women after their abortions justifies abortion

Rosemary Radford Ruether from Woman-Church provides a new prayer for a woman who has had an abortion:

The article in First Things says:

“Woman-Church, provides the “new words, new prayers, new symbols” that will free women from patriarchy and allow them “to live the new humanity now.” Her community prayer for the rite of healing from an abortion.”

This is the prayer:

“O great Mother and Father, power of all life and new life, we are sorrowful this day . . . we are also angry. . . . We are surrounded by a world in which vast numbers of people go to bed hungry and where many children come into the world unwanted and without the most minimal opportunities for love and development. We don’t want to create life that way. We want to create life that is chosen, wanted, and can be sustained and nourished. Our sister has made her hard choice. . . . We affirm and uphold her in her ongoing life, as she gathers her life together and centers her energies on how she is going to continue to sustain her own life and the lives around her which it nourishes.”

Woman calls her abortion “pleasant”

From a woman who had an abortion:

“It was reasonably pleasant..…It only took three minutes. You come around virtually immediately. Just feeling a bit woozy. And then, there we were in the next room, in a row, like factory farming, everybody sort of groaning because the one thing they don’t tell you is that there is a degree of pain afterwards.…. It cost $125 at the time – fantastically reasonable. Abortion is a competitive business in America and that keeps the prices sharp….. There was no question of counseling or anything like that: it was purely physical.”

“I like abortion” says pro-choicer

Pro-abortion advocate Sady Doyle comments on Katha Pollit’s idea that abortion is a great thing:

Abortion saves lives, improves lives, and makes for a stronger society. ….Personally, I like abortion. I’ve never needed one. I’m still glad to have the option. I’m glad for the people I’ve known who got pregnant at the wrong time, with the wrong people, and didn’t have their lives ruined by it.

If Pollitt gets her way, more of us might feel free to admit that, hey: We like abortion.

It didn’t save or improve the life of the baby below.

Abortion doulas: you’re “not responsible” if woman chooses wrong

In a book for and about abortion doulas (people who “emotionally support” women while they have their abortions, under “Tips for Self-Care” it says:

“You are not responsible if she went through with an abortion she ultimately didn’t really want to have.”

Mary Mahoney and Lauren Mitchell The Doulas: Radical Care for Pregnant People (New York: Feminist Press, 2016) 221

Does any woman really WANT an abortion? Shouldn’t we be helping women find alternatives that both they and their baby can live with, rather than encouraging them to do something they can never undo?

Abortion supporter compares babies to mold and weeds

Patricia Beninato, founder of the now defunct site Imnotsorry.net, where women wrote positive stories about their abortions, said:

Yes, a fetus is alive. But weeds are life and mold is life and bugs are life and we destroy those on a regular basis. Pro-lifers want to give the impression that abortion is someone ripping a full-term baby out of a woman’s womb and dashing its brains out against the nearest wall, when in actuality the average abortion-nearly 90 percent-is done within the first trimester.

Lynn Vincent “Victims of their own choice” World Magazine April 09, 20

Even in the first trimester, at 10 weeks, the baby is far from being mold. He or she is a fully developed child.

Even at the average time most abortions are done, the embryo is far more developed than Beninato acknowledges.

Pro-choicer explains support for infanticide

British abortion supporter John Harris points out how the argument that a fetus with no rights becomes a baby with rights simply by traveling down the birth canal makes no sense:

“We can terminate for serious foetal abnormality up to term but we cannot kill a newborn. What do people think has happened in the passage down the birth canal to make it okay to kill the foetus at one end of the birth canal but not at the other?”

John Harris, interview with the Sunday Times, Harris is a member of the UK Human Genetics Commission Prof. of bioethics at Manchester University

Harris supports infanticide.

Pro-choice doctor on the “beginning of human life”

Dr. Thomas Verney  is pro-choice but considers abortion to be the taking of human life. He encourages doctors to tell the truth to their patients:

“I believe the choice to have or not have a child should be left up to the individual woman…but I also think a women must be made fully aware that what is at stake is not a clump of calls but the beginning of human life. If a doctor can spend several minutes explaining how he plans to remove a superfluous organ, such as an appendix, shouldn’t he be willing to give this kind of decision equal time?”

Abortion is birth control, says pro-choicer

Patricia Beninato, who once ran a site called Imnotsorry.net where women shared positive abortion stories, says that abortion is birth control:

One of the peeves I have is that there seems to be a mindset even within the pro-choice community that having to get one abortion is OK, but anything after that and you’re a dumb slut who doesn’t know how to use birth control. I often hear younger women say things like, “Well, yeah, the condom can break or whatever, but I don’t believe in people using abortion as birth control.” Um . . . abortion is birth control, just a more expensive and intrusive version of it.

Abortion supporter calls abortion “self-enhancing”

Abortion supporter B. R. Arnowitz:

“The self-nurturant woman may even view the procedure “as a growth-promoting experience”; and “the circumstances surrounding the abortion may even be a self-enhancing occasion for the woman.”

“A fetus becomes a human being when the woman decides it does”

From pro-abortion supporter Joyce Arthur:

“So all in all, a woman’s reasons for having an abortion are ethical. … A fetus becomes a human being when the woman carrying it decides it does. Pro-choice leaders and activists are wrong to encourage debate on the status of the fetus. They are wrong to publicly speculate on its moral value. Their opinion about the fetus is just as irrelevant and just as dangerous as the opinion of the most fanatical anti-choicer. Because when we inject our opinions about the fetus into the public square, it just shows our lack of respect and trust for the moral authority of pregnant women. “

Joyce Arthur. “The Fetus Focus Fallacy.Pro-Choice Press [Pro-Choice Action Network], March 2005
