Statistics show that some British women have nine abortions

From an article in British newspaper The Telegraph:

“According to statistics, thousands of women are using the service to terminate unwanted foetuses; in some cases up to nine times…

In 2010, 189,000 terminations took place, with more than 64,000 of them being performed on someone who had already undergone the procedure….

The figures showed the majority of repeat abortions happened in London, with more than half of all of the procedures performed in Croydon being on women for the second time or more….

In 2010, 85 women had an abortion for the eighth time.”

Chinese woman describes baby born alive after forced abortion

According to a story in the Vancouver Sun, a Chinese woman underwent a forced abortion where the baby was born alive. Seeking asylum in Canada, she told her story to the board determining whether she would be allowed to stay. According to the Vancouver Sun:

“She told the board she underwent a forced abortion 13 years ago, when she was seven months pregnant with her third child. After the abortion, she told the board, she had another child in hiding. When authorities discovered she was pregnant with a fourth child, she was dragged to the hospital for another abortion, which included the fetus being injected with a poison in front of her. Later, she was forcibly sterilized.”

The woman says that after the second abortion:

“I thought she [the baby] was alive. After it was aborted [the nurse] threw it in the corner on the floor. … I told them: `It is alive baby, let me have it, raise it.’

They said: `No, because of the injection it’s going to die soon.’ … I saw her die and it was very painful.  My heart got broken then.”

Insurance company demands couple abort baby with cystic fibrosis, refuses coverage

An article in the Christian Century tells of the following:

“CAN WE FORECAST a connection between genetic discrimination and selective abortion? Yes. A couple in Louisiana had a child with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder leading to chronic lung infections and excruciating discomfort.

When the wife became pregnant with the second child, a prenatal genetic test revealed that the fetus carried the mutant gene for cystic fibrosis.

The couple’s health maintenance organization demanded that they abort. If they refused to abort, the HMO would withdraw coverage from both the newborn and the first child. Only when the couple threatened to sue did the HMO back down and grant coverage for the second child.”

Guidance counselor took teen for secret abortion without telling parents

An article in The Christian Century tells the following story:

“A Pennsylvania couple has sued a public school guidance counselor, charging that he violated their constitutional rights by helping their minor daughter obtain a secret abortion…..

The teenager, who subsequently graduated from high school in June 1999, told the counselor that she was a Southern Baptist and that abortion was contrary to her and her parents, beliefs, the suit alleges.

The suit further charges that Hickey responded to the teen’s doubts by telling her “welcome to the adult world” and “someday you’ll look back on this and laugh.”

Embryologist: there is a “live human being” at fertilization

Ronan O’Rahilly is an embryologist.

Pro-life author Rick Garrett describes him this way:

“Ronan O’Rahilly is the human embryologist who developed the classic Carnegie stages of human embryological development. He also sits on the international board of Nomina Embryologica (which determines the correct terminology to be used in human embryology textbooks).”

According to O’Rahilly:

“the fusion of the sperm (with 23 chromosomes) and the oocyte (with 23 chromosomes) at fertilization results in a live human being, a single-cell human zygote, with 46 chromosomes – the number of chromosomes characteristic of an individual member of the human species, not a blob of cells that are part of the mother’s body.”

Pregnancy Center volunteer explains her work

A pregnancy resource center staff member who works with post-abortive and pregnant women says:

“Society tends to portray abortion as an easy, quick fix with no regrets. Research shows us that is just not true. We are blessed to provide love, support, and encouragement for all women, no matter their pregnancy decision.

When a pregnant woman enters our door, there are two lives that need tending. We mourn the loss of one life when women choose abortion, but we are still committed to the care of the mother’s life and pray the best for her as she travels the road to after-abortion recovery.”

Philosopher uses late-term abortion to argue for infanticide of disabled newborns

Peter Singer, who is a professor at Princeton University, wrote a book arguing for euthanasia and infanticide. He cites a survey of doctors to argue that it is hypocritical to allow late-term abortion but not infanticide:

(Note, the book was written in 1994, so the survey is no longer “recent.”)

“A recent survey asked paediatricians in senior positions in the United Kingdom to say whether they agreed or disagreed with a number of different statements among which were:

  1. Abortion is morally permissible after 24 weeks if the fetus is abnormal;

  2. There is no moral difference between the abortion of a fetus and the active termination of the life of a newborn infant when both have the same gestational age [that is, the same age dating from conception] and suffer from the same defects;

  3. There are no circumstances in which it is morally permissible to take active steps to terminate the life of an infant with severe defects.

Nearly 40% of the senior paediatricians responding indicated that they agreed with all three of these statements, even though you can’t agree without contradicting yourself…

Senior paediatricians have come to accept prenatal diagnosis and late termination of pregnancy if a serious abnormality is found. They can also see there is no real difference between a late fetus and a newborn infant at the same gestational age.

But active euthanasia for severely disabled infants remains illegal and is not sanctioned by medical codes of ethics, no matter how premature the infants may be, or how serious their defects.”

Pro-life leader Lila Rose: Politicians were too scared of the media to support preborn babies

In her memoir, pro-life activist and founder of Live Action Lila Rose wrote about meeting with politicians and trying to get Planned Parenthood defunded:

“I met with Senate leaders. They listened politely and agreed with me in principle. Some even spoke with me at press conferences or rallies.

However, we also faced many obstacles. Perhaps the biggest obstacle of all was the desperate fear many political leaders had of an openly hostile media, and how the media’s negative coverage of their words or votes might impact their reputation with constituents.

At one private meeting… [t]he chief of staff for the House Majority Leader was present and was asked point-blank why they weren’t playing hardball with the Senate over the budget that would be sent to then-President Obama.

The House had the power to remove from the budget funding for Planned Parenthood and all abortion clinics and redirect it to authentic healthcare providers who helped save lives instead of ending them.

Even though pro-abortion politicians controlled the Senate and the White House, the House could refuse to approve any budget that allowed funding for abortion clinics. Yet, House members were afraid to do that. If the government shut down over abortion funding, the media would blame them, and they knew it.

“It will be on the front page of Politico that the Republicans shut down the government,” said the Chief of Staff nervously, angry that we were making such a big ask of his boss.

I wondered how someone that powerful could be so scared. The front page of Politico? Who cares? How many people even read Politico, anyway? Was Politico running the country now?

I believed that constituents wanted to see courage and leadership displayed, not cowardice and submission, to a hostile media.

Increasingly, our team discovered the necessity of reaching people directly with our stories and videos and not relying on media to report on our findings.”

Poll shows more people would want their disabled baby to die than live

Philosopher Peter Singer, who argues in favor of killing disabled babies, wrote about a poll about disabled children:

“In a 1983 Gallup poll, Americans were asked what they would do if they had a badly deformed baby in need of treatment. 43% said that they would ask the doctor not to keep the baby alive, and 40% said they would want the baby kept alive.”

Peter Singer Rethinking Life and Death: The Collapse of Our Traditional Ethics (New York: St. Martin’s Griffin, 1994) 119 – 120

This quote reveals the terrible ableism that was present in our society, with more parents wanting a “deformed” baby to die than to live. I’m not aware of any more recent surveys, so I don’t know if things have improved since then, but with the high rate of disabled babies aborted after fetal screenings show disabilities, I suspect that they haven’t.
