Germaine Greer on Choice

Feminist GERMAINE GREER:

“So far it has been assumed that the only pregnancies which are aborted are accidental ones and the only foetuses destroyed those whose mothers could not bear the thought of their becoming children. In a just world this would be the case, but the world is far from just. Too many women are forced to abort by poverty, by their menfolk, by their parents. Poverty has many faces; it may be the poverty of the young, the unmarried, the student, the unemployed, the female or a combination of these.”

Mother Sees Her Unborn Baby for the First Time an Ultrasound

A married woman who became pregnant at age 39 after she had already had all the children she wanted weighed the abortion decision and decided she would probably keep the baby. But:

20 to 24 week ultrasound

“Unfortunately, she says, her maternal instincts did not respond to reason: when a young friend placed her baby in her arms, she found herself looking with distaste into “a little scrunched face inspiring no tenderness, only intense tedium at the thought of tending him. What was I going to do with the baby I couldn’t return to his mother?” She arranged to have amniocentesis once they got to England, though she was not sure – despite her reservations – what it would cost her emotionally to have an abortion if something were wrong. When told she had as much chance of having a miscarriage from the amniocentesis as she did, at her age, of having a Down syndrome child, she hoped for the miscarriage: “That is until, lying on the table where the procedure was to take place, I saw the ultrasound scan on a television monitor above me reveal the perfectly shaped head of the child I carried. I wanted that baby!”

Pro-Choice Woman Horrified at Abortion Film

Julia Black Is a British Pro-Choice Activist Who Made a Film Entitled “My Fetus” which recorded abortions in progress. It is usually pro-lifers who want to show the world how bad abortion is by showing the actual procedures. In this case, the maker of the film is pro-choice and she’s trying to desensitize viewers and defend abortion.

The film shows graphic pictures of aborted babies.

According to an article about the documentary:

“The film is apparently staggering in its emotional impact. One pro-abortion journalist, Lauren Booth of the Daily Telegraph (London),who has herself had an abortion, watched the documentary and wasstunned. “My hand flew to my mouth in shock,” she said. “I swallowed. I didn’t want to say it, but the word `murder’ came to my lips.”

Black said that she made the film:

“[to] “reclaim the most powerful weapon the anti-abortion groups currently have – the fetus and the baby.”

Catherine Weiss, Head of the Reproductive Freedom Project, Defines Abortion

On legislation banning partial birth abortion, which is a technique of abortion where the baby is delivered up to the head and killed partially outside of the woman’s body:

“The elements of this crime are the elements of abortions, namely that the fetus comes out through the vagina and is killed. That’s what an abortion is.”

Catherine Weiss, head of the Reproductive Freedom Project of the American Civil Liberties Union

Melanie Conklin, “Lights out on Abortion,” The Progressive July 1998

There is no doubt that abortion kills a “fetus.” A fetus is merely a human being in an early stage of development.

Women Take Abortion Lightly, Says Clinic Administrator

Despite pro-choice rhetoric, abortion providers know the seriousness of abortion. They are the ones that that have to clean up after abortions, rinsing off baby parts and disposing of them. For that reason, many of them become frustrated with women who take the abortion process to lightly or who have a repeat abortions. Here you can read about repeat abortions and providers’ attitudes towards them.

According to Marilyn Buckham, director of Buffalo GYN Womenservices Clinic:

“Women don’t do this [abortion] lightly. I’m sick and tired of hearing that. 98 percent of the women DO do it lightly in here, but I never say that. And they do it lightly. They think of abortion like brushing their dime teeth, and that’s ok with me.”

Quoted in The Revolutionary Worker [Revolutionary Communist Newspaper] March 6, 1989

Despite the clinic workers assertion that she doesn’t mind when women take abortion lightly, the tone of her comment betrays that she actually is disturbed by their lack of reverence for what they are doing.

Virginia Women Get Away with Child Murder

According to the Supreme Court, killing a baby in his mother’s womb is not usually considered murder, but killing a baby out of the womb is. But what about killings that happen at the moment the baby’s being born or soon after? Are they murder or simply a form of extra late abortion?

This question was answered in December of 2009 when a Virginia woman gave birth to a child and killed it before police could arrive. Police were called to the scene of a woman experiencing labor. However, when they arrived, they discovered that the woman had give given birth 10 hours previously and the baby was dead. According to a policeman on the scene:

“I believe everyone was upset except the person that should have been upset, the mother.”

The woman had suffocated her child under bedding. She showed absolutely no remorse. Police wanted to charge her with murder, but a loophole in Virginia law says that as long as the baby is attached to its mother by the umbilical cord when she is killed, the mother cannot be charged with any crime – not even a lesser charge like manslaughter. According to Investigator Tracy Emerson :

“In the state of Virginia, as long as the umbilical cord is attached and [the] placenta is still in the mother, if the baby comes out alive, the mother can do whatever she wants to that baby to kill it. She can shoot the baby, stab the baby or anything as long as it is still attached to her in some form by umbilical cord or something, and it’s no crime in the state of Virginia.”

Apparently, this was not the first time the police have found a woman who had just killed her baby and were unable to arrest her. Previously in a nearby county, police had gone to another woman’s home to find that she had also murdered her baby. When they were unable to prosecute her because of the law, they approached legislators and petitioned them to change the law to allow women to be prosecuted for murdering their children. However, the politicians they approached were pro-choice and were not willing to re-examine the law because it was related to abortion-rights. Therefore, it remains legal for women to kill their babies in the state of Virginia as long as the umbilical cord has not been cut.

A woman can stab, strangled, or shoot her living, crying, breathing baby 5 minutes or one hour after birth as long as the umbilical cord has not been cut. How many women have taken advantage of this situation of the law to murder their children is unknown. However, until the law is changed, these murders will continue to happen and the police will continue to be helpless bystanders.

Dr. Describes Abortion of 18 – 22 Week Old Baby

Abortionist Warren Hern, in his textbook on how to perform abortions:

18-week-old unborn baby

“[at 18 weeks post fertilization age] it can be a significantly more difficult procedure accompanied by unnerving hemorrhage. Forceps use must be sure and relatively rapid. There is frequently not much time for exploring the nuances of different tissue sensations. Grasping and collapsing the calvaria [upper domelike portion of the skull] are often difficult. Stripping the calvaria of soft tissue is sometimes the first step in successful delivery of this part, followed by dislocation of parietal bones… [From 19 to 22 weeks post fertilization age] A long curved Mayo scissors may be necessary to decapitate and dismember the fetus, since it may be impossible to apply forceps or to do so while avoiding the thinned out cervix.”

American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology On Unborn Babies and Pain

When President Reagan said that unborn babies feel pain during abortion in 1984, it provoked a reaction from pro-choice circles who denied this. A letter was written by a group of professors including two past presidents of the American College of obstetrics and gynecology, backing the fact that fetuses feel pain.

“Real-time ultrasonography, fetoscopy, study of the fetal EKG and fetal EEG have demonstrated a remarkable responsiveness of the human fetus to pain, touch, and sound. That the fetus response to changes in light intensity within the womb, DC, to cold, and to taste (by altering the chemical nature of the fluid swallowed by the fetus) has been exquisitely documented in the pioneering work of the late Sir William Lily – the father of fetology,”
