Doctor Left Pieces of Bone in Women’s Uteruses after Abortions

12 weeks. Three times, this abortion provider left pieces of bone in his patient’s uteruses while aborting children like this one

“I do take all steps to remove everything, but certainly I have been called back about, I think three times now, where there is a piece of — usually it’s a piece of bone found in the uterus.”

Dr. William Fitzhugh, abortionist, in sworn testimony in Carhart vs. Ashcroft, Lincoln, NE, March 30, 2004

Fetal development in the 7th week

7 weeks

“In its seventh week [the unborn baby] bears the familiar external features and all the internal organs of the adult…The brain in configuration is already like the adult brain and sends out impulses that coordinate the functions of other organs…The heart beats sturdily. The stomach produces digestive juices. The liver manufactures blood cells and the kidneys begin to function by extracting uric acid from the child’s blood…The muscles of the arms and body can already be set in motion. After the eighth week…everything is already present that will be found in the full-term baby.”

From a  group of scientists, physicians and professors released amicus curiae brief (95:13-14)

Scientists for Life, Inc. and Edward C. Freiling “The Position of Modern Science on the Beginning of Human Life, Faxton, VA: Sun Life, 1983) p 17

This tiny, recognizable, perfect little hand is a scrap left over from an abortion done at 7 weeks after conception. Nearly 15,000 abortions happen at this stage every week.

The Fusion of Sperm and Egg Initiates Life

Third trimester abortionist on the women who get abortions late in pregnancy

Dr Susan Robinson, a former colleague of George Tiller who still performs late term abortions, discusses the women who come in for late second trimester and third trimester abortions:

“Women whose fetuses have terrible abnormalities are a lot easier for people to understand. The husband and wife want to spare their baby whatever suffering that baby would have.

‘Then there’s the group of women who didn’t know they were pregnant,’ she said. ‘They were told they were not pregnant for one reason or another and they are just as desperate.’”

“After Tiller: Meet the only four doctors in the U.S. who still perform third-trimester abortions despite constant threats to their lives” Mail Online Jan 21, 2013

Thus we see that these late term abortions are not always done because of health problems in the baby, but are also done on healthy mothers with healthy babies who “didn’t’ know they were pregnant” until the third trimester.

“It is difficult to grasp the head” says abortionist

An abortionist describes his job:

“It is difficult to grasp the head; it is round, it slips out of the instruments that we generally use. Either those instruments or the head can be extruded outside the uterus and cause perforation.”

Testimony of abortionist Dr Timothy Johnson, National Abortion Federation, et. al. v. Ashcroft, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, March 31, 2004

Abortionist describes delivering a baby part way and then crushing the head

22 weeks

“They delivered the fetus intact until the head was still trapped behind the cervix, and then they reached up and crushed the head in order to deliver it through the cervix.”

Pro-life doctor comments on ultrasound

Testimony of Steve Calvin, M.D., specialist in maternal – fetal medicine, before the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Federalism, and Property Rights, Senate Judiciary Committee, Hearing on “The 25th Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade: Has It Stood the Test of Time?” January 21st, 1998:

“… At the time of the Roe V Wade decision, ultrasound during pregnancy was largely experimental. During the 70s and 80s the beneficial uses of ultrasound in pregnancy multiplied…

Current ultrasound imaging techniques reveal the marvelous complexity of prenatal growth and development… However, the use of this wonderful window on the womb has become increasingly disconcerting for some who would rather view the fetus as pregnancy tissue or the product of conception.

We are clearly in a new era of obstetrics because of ultrasound and the expanding concept of treatment of the fetus as a patient. Yet there is an inescapable schizophrenia when modern medicine works under ethical rules which say that a fetus is a patient only when the mother has conferred the status.”

1st trimester sonogram

Ultrasound has been a powerful pro-life tool. It is not surprising that pro-choice groups have sought to prevent mothers from seeing their unborn babies on ultrasound when they are considering abortions. Read quotes about ultrasounds here.

In that fraction of a second…life begins

Here is what a medical textbook says about when life begins:

“In that fraction of a second when the chromosomes form pairs, the sex of the new child will be determined, hereditary characteristics received from each parent will be set, and a new life will have begun.”

Kaluger, G., and Kaluger, M., Human Development: The Span of Life, page 28-29, The C.V. Mosby Co., St. Louis, 1974.

ACLU comments on the display of the bodies of aborted babies

Joseph Scheidler and Monica Miller held a press conference outside an abortion clinic where they showed the bodies 0f aborted babies that they had dug out of the clinic’s trash.

Colleen Connell who headed up the Reproductive Rights Project of the ACLU, said:

“Basically, the parade in front of the 30 S. Michigan clinic was nothing but a shameless effort to exploit the human emotions that are invoked any time people see blood. I think what’s deliberately obscured by the organizers of that March is the real issue of whether a woman has a constitutional right to control her own reproductive functions… And what the protesters have done today is an attempt to manipulate public opinion by showing the byproducts that we’d really see in the consequence of any surgery.”

Monica Migliorino Miller Abandoned: the Untold Story of the Abortion Wars (Charlotte, North Carolina: St. Benedict Press, 2012)

Here is a picture of one of the babies Miller found in the garbage of the abortion clinic

The baby in this picture is 10 weeks old

One clearly see that this is a dead child, not simply “blood” or like”the product of any surgery”. Confronted with the reality of abortion, misleading quotes like the one above are the best the pro-choice movement can do.

Article in the New England Journal of Medicine: women are not better off

A few years after abortion was legalized, a doctor wrote this letter to the New England Journal of medicine explaining that women were no better off than they had been before.

“Ideally, the reform is designed to encourage women to take responsibility for this most important aspect of their lives, to give them freedom of choice, and to remove the decision from (usually) male authority figures. Unfortunately, this is not necessarily what happens…

Now that abortion is not only possible but fashionable, many young women do not experience themselves as having a choice in the matter any more than they did before. Whereas society once told them that they must have their babies whether they wanted to or not, it now seems to be telling them that they may not have their babies even if they wish to. Before the laws were liberalized in Massachusetts, Nadelson wrote of the mother applying for therapeutic abortion, “we rarely attend her welfare or that of her children; we do not consider her needs, her capacities or aspirations as she sees them.” Now that the laws have been changed, Nadelson’s statement unfortunately still stands.”

Ruth Tiffany Barnhouse, letter to the editor, New England Journal of Medicine 292 no. 9 (February 27, 1975): 485

Has 40 years of legal abortion good for women? There are many thousands of women who regret their abortions and take part in postabortion ministries. Cases of eptopic pregnancy and premature births (which studies have shown increase in women who have abortions) have risen exponentially. And many women feel they have no choice but to have an abortion when they become pregnant. Men often coerce women into having abortions. Are things really better?
