Abortion is like swimming, says Planned Parenthood director

A first-trimester abortion, said Irving S. Rust, director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in the South Bronx, is

“like swimming. It can be sort of boring and kind of monotonous, but unless you’re good at it, you can wind up with some major complications.”

Sandra G. Boodman “The Dearth of Abortion Doctors; Stigma, Low Pay and Lack of Personal Commitment Erode Ranks” The Washington Post  April 20, 1993

Aborted in the first trimester (8 weeks)

Betty Friedan Calls Disabled Babies “Monsters”

CNBC’s “Hardball” debate on partial birth abortion between Helen Alvare of the National Council of Catholic Bishops and Betty Friedan, well known pro-choice feminist:

Friedan: “How lacking in compassion you are for women’s right to control their bodies! You want to force women to give birth to monsters! How terrible you are.

Alvare: “Calling disabled people “monsters” is hardly a start for a dialogue.”

Keep in mind that many of the babies aborted in the late 2nd and 3rd trimester, when partial-birth abortions were performed, are down syndrome children. Classifying these handicapped children (or any handicapped children) as monsters should be deeply offensive to everyone who cares about the disabled.

Babies are “dangerous epidemics” says Planned Parenthood medical director

This quote shows how Planned Parenthood views children. Mary Calderone was Planned Parenthood’s medical director around the time when Planned Parenthood 1st started doing abortions:

“We have yet to beat our public health drums for birth control in the way we beat them for polio vaccine; we are still unable to put babies in the class of dangerous epidemics, even though that is the exact truth.”

Mary S Calderon M.D., Medical Director, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and founder, Sex Education and Information Council the United States, SIECUS newsletter, February – March 1960

Aborted baby is “removed organ” to be made use of

On the eve of Roe versus Wade, a New York doctor states that in other countries, aborted babies could be experimented on. This is a reason, he believes, to support legalized abortion and fetal research.

“In Mexico and Scandinavia an aborted fetus is an aborted fetus. It can be treated like a removed organ. We might as well make some logical use of it.”

Response to survey on down syndrome children shows contempt and selfishness

Detroit News survey asking women if they would have an abortion if the baby had down syndrome. One respondent said yes:

“Let’s be practical. I am not giving up 80% or more of my life to care for a Down Syndrome baby that will be depend on me through his/her adult life. “Corkey” was lucky and probably the only cast to get ratings to play on the hearts of others. Let me be as upfront as possible……This is the ‘Me’ generation, and with health costs increasing endlessly, who has the money?”

Quoted in the blog JivinJehosephat

Over 95% of all children with down syndrome report being happy, and many parents,  find raising these children very rewarding. There is even a waiting list for adopting down syndrome babies

14-week-old baby – down syndrome is not detectable in a baby like this until he or she is at least 4 weeks older

Assistant professor: Medical students are trained to avoid moral judgments

8 weeks

Medical school asst. professor Jeffrey L. Johnson of The University of Southern California School of Medicine:

“The majority of people going into medicine are trained not to make moral judgments as to whether abortion is right or wrong, they are trained to avoid such moral judgments. This assists in dehumanizing the unborn, because people have never been expected to make a rigorous moral evaluation about them. Most people who go through medical school have not had their moral learning and capacity for ethical reflection keep pace with their medical and scientific training.”

President of Catholics for Free Choice: Consider “developing life”

From a pro-choice essay entitled “Is There Life after Roe? How to Think about the Fetus,” in the winter 2004/5 issue of Conscience, Frances Kissling, (president of Catholics for Free Choice) told prochoicers:

“[It is preferable to be] avoiding a coarsening of humanity that can result from the taking of life. Pro-choice advocates may bristle at such a claim, [but they would do well] “to present abortion as a complex issue that involves loss and to be saddened by that loss at the same time as we affirm and support women’s decisions to end pregnancies.”

“After thirty years of legal abortion and a debate that shows no signs of ending and has no clear winner is it not time to try and combine rights and morality to consider both women and developing human life?”

Rape counselor comments on study about pregnant rape victims

From Dr. Sandra Mahkorn, a rape counselor who did a study on pregnant rape victims:

“Because it is likely that the victim already harbors feelings of guilt as a result of the assault, medico – social pressures which encourage and result in abortion could compound the woman’s feelings of guilt and self blame [over the abortion itself]… Perhaps as a result of their own biases and an unwillingness to deal with the more emotionally difficult complications of a pregnant rape victim, many physicians suggest abortion in this case as one would prescribe aspirin for tension headache… While on the surface this “suggestion” may appear acceptable and even “humane” to many, the victim is dealt another disservice. Such condescending [”quick fix”] attitudes on the part of physicians, friends and family can only serve to reaffirm the sense of helplessness and vulnerability that was so violently conveyed in the act of sexual assault itself. At a time when she is struggling to regain her sense of self-esteem, such a “take charge” attitude can be especially damaging. Often the offer of such “quick and easy” solutions as abortion only serve those who are uncomfortable or unwilling to deal with the special problems and needs that such complications as pregnancy might present.

The central issue, then, should not be whether we can abort all pregnant sexual assault victims, but rather an exploration of the things we can change in ourselves, and through community education, to support such women through their pregnancies. The “abortion is the best solution” approach can only serve to encourage the belief that sexual assault is something for which the victim must bear shame – a sin to be carefully concealed… Too often the pregnancy receives the most attention, and the anger, guilt, fear, and low self-esteem related to the assault bills to be addressed.

The attitudes projected by others, and not the pregnancy itself pose the central problem for the pregnant victim.

By no means am I attempted to conclude that pregnancy as a result of rape is a simple matter. Such a conclusion would indeed be naïve. This study does seem to suggest, however, that even though emotionally and psychologically difficult, these burdens can be lessened with proper support.

Psychological support, especially from the woman’s family and friends, is enormously important. They should stand by her and say clearly that, no matter what the circumstances of conception, there should never be any embarrassment about [bringing an infant] into the world. There should never be anything but pride in that.”

Planned Parenthood president is “fully aware” an abortion kills a baby

On the Donahue show, Faye Wattleton admitted that abortion destroys babies.

September 6, 1991, dialogue involving Faye Wattleton on Donahue, according to Transcript #3288:

Randall Terry: “It’s not a frog or a ferret that’s being killed. It’s a baby.”

Faye Wattleton: “I am fully aware of that. I am fully aware of that.”

Ultrasound images don’t show that unborn babies have “human qualities” say pro-choicers

From an article entitled “Foetus scans fuel abortion debate”:

12 week sonogram

“Moving ultrasound images showing 12-week-old foetuses sucking their thumbs and appearing to “walk” do not prove they have feelings and provide no scientific evidence for lowering the age limit for abortion, experts said yesterday.”

….

The moving images showed that unborn babies can stretch, kick and leap around from 12 weeks, make intricate finger movements at 15 weeks and yawn at 20 weeks. They also revealed that 18-week-old foetuses can open their eyes.

The images were used by the anti-abortion lobby to argue against the 24-week limit. But yesterday three neonatal experts warned that the scans, though “fantastic”, provided no fresh scientific evidence to justify lowering the limit.”

Pro-choice activists were quick with damage control:

Huseyin Mehmet, a reader in developmental neurobiology who is pro-choice:

“I worried when I saw those images. These images do not prove that those human qualities can be attributed to a foetus of 12 weeks.”

12 weeks

Donald Peebles, a consultant in foetal medicine at University College London:

“The temptation is to associate foetal movements with adult movements – it’s sucking its thumb because it’s happy, it’s walking because it’s going somewhere. I think it’s that step which is extraordinarily dangerous. I don’t think in scientific terms these shed any new light whatsoever on the debate.”

Does anyone really believe what these so-called “experts” are saying- that the scans mean nothing and do not show that an unborn baby has “human qualities?” (whatever that means?) An unborn baby IS human. it is not a duck, not a fish, but a human  being in an early stage of development.
