Pro-Choice group: It is cheaper to abort children than support them

Only a few years after Roe V Wade, a pro-choice group made the following argument that the state Medicaid program should pay for abortions for the poor:

7 weeks. Most abortions are done around this time or later

“Financing abortions for the poor is far less expensive than the cost of childbirth and welfare support for unwanted children,” he wrote. “So the government is actually paying out your tax dollars to force poor women to become mothers.”

Brief for Appellees at 185, Harris v. McRae, 448 U.S. 297 (1980); and Norman Dorsen, ACLU Campaign for Choice fund-raising letter to “Dear Friend,” n.d. [received by the writer on 29 Sept. 1979].

It is easier easier to kill poor children than support them. But this is not helping the less fortunate- or the country. Killing children to save money is wrong on a profound level.

Abortionist/Psychiatrist admits that abortion causes “trauma” to women

Dr. Julius Fogel, who is a psychiatrist and has performed hundreds of abortions:

“Every woman – whatever her age, background, or sexuality – has a trauma at destroying a pregnancy. A level of humanness is touched. This is a part of her own life. She destroys a pregnancy, she is destroying herself. There is no way it can be innocuous. One is dealing with the life force. It is totally beside the point whether or not you think a life is there. You cannot deny that something is being created and that this creation is physically happening… Often the trauma may sink into the unconscious, and never surface in the woman’s lifetime. But it is not as harmless and casual an event as many in the pro-abortion crowd insist. A psychological price is paid. It may be alienation; it may be a pushing away from human warmth, perhaps a hardening of the maternal instinct. Something happens on the deeper levels of a woman’s consciousness when she destroys a pregnancy. I know this is a psychiatrist.””

Abortion Doctor Has Recurring Nightmares, Does not Stop

In an article profiling abortionist Dr. William Rashbaum (now deceased) who performed over 20,000 abortions in his career, it said:

“… although Rashbaum felt he was performing a necessary service, it weighed heavily on his conscience. He was troubled by a recurring dream of a fetus trying to hold onto the walls of a uterus by its tiny fingernails. Raised to believe that abortion was wrong, he reasons, “What kind of dreams do you think you are going to have?”

REBECCA PALEY “Cruel to be kind: In the twilight of his career, a late-term-abortion doctor tells all” The Boston Phoenix  Dec 2003

Sadly, he never stopped performing abortions because of these dreams. He ignored his conscience. We must not.

Only 84 days old. The doctor aborted thousands of babies like him

Los Angeles Doctor Who Killed Two Women Called “Unselfish and Committed”

A pro-lifer in Brad Stetson, editor The Silent Subject: Reflections on the Unborn in American Culture (Westport, Connecticut: Praeger, 1996) (page 8) cited:

“A Los Angeles doctor who operates two abortion clinics is called “an unselfish and committed provider” by a judge who sentenced him to one year probation for the deaths of two women to whom he was administering abortions. Later, following a review by the Medical Board of California, the doctor, who has performed approximately 100,000 abortions, had his medical license revoked.”

Planned Parenthood medical director: Mother’s life “hardly ever” threatened by pregnancy

Mary Calderone, medical director of Planned Parenthood, said the following in 1960:

“Medically speaking, that is, from the point of view of diseases of the various systems, cardiac, genitourinary, and so on, it’s hardly ever necessary today to consider the life of the mother as threatened by a pregnancy.”

Mary Calderone “Illegal Abortion As a Public Health Problem,” American Journal of Pub. Health 50 1960): 948 – 949 Quoted inClarke D Forsythe Abuse of Discretion: the inside Story of Roe Versus Wade (New York: Encounter Books, 2013)

In 1960, Mary Calderon was campaigning to make abortion legal. The fact that even in a work dedicated to promoting abortion, she admits that pregnancy was very rarely a danger to a woman’s life is very telling. It is very rare for a situation to arise where abortion is needed to save a woman’s life – it was rare in 1960, and it’s even more rare today. While very few pro-lifers would say that a woman should not be allowed to have an abortion in such a case, the argument “to save the life of the mother” should not be used as a wedge for abortion on demand.

Woman who had 3 abortions: “I’m the most important person in the world”

From a woman who had 3 abortions

“A lot of people would argue that, that’s a life, but I say, what about my life?… Do I think abortion is pro-life? It’s pro-my life, and I am the most important person in the world and I want to make myself happy.… A good friend of mine has 2 kids, she’s a perfect mother, roast on Sundays. Good for you, if that’s what you want, more power to you. Let me have what I want.”

Clinic worker: abortionists she works with are “pathological”

From one social worker at an abortion clinic:

“There’s really pathological things in their [the abortion doctors’] involvement with abortion. Like Dr. Rodrigo. He is very sarcastic and really, you know, like goes after people.”

Abortionist compares aborted baby to “a rose pressed in a Bible”

“The New England Journal of medicine featured an article that describes how to abort one twin without destroying the other. Using ultrasound, Dr. Thomas Kerenyi guided a needle through the mother’s abdomen and then punctured the heart of the twin who had been diagnosed as having Down Syndrome. He withdrew approximately 40-50 percent of the infant’s blood, and the baby died. Several months later, the mother gave birth to the survivor and discharged the remains of the dead infant. At a news conference shortly thereafter, Dr. Kerenyi described the corpse as “flat, fragile and paperlike…like a rose that had been pressed in a Bible for five years.” But that was not a rose pressed lovingly in a Bible. It was the remains of an infant.”
