“you’re signing this life away”

16 weeks – most D&E abortions are done at this stage or later

A woman who was about to have a late term  abortion because the baby had spina bifida, and would be in a wheelchair, chose the D & E (dismemberment) technique because she did not want to go through labor:

When the doctor started dilating the cervix (probably by inserting laminaria) he said something very telling. In the words of the woman having the abortion:

“The process was to go in [To the clinic] the day before and have my cervix stimulated with…

It’s like a little cigarette kind of, and stimulated the cervix opening. I remember going in there and having the doctor say, “Now once we do this, it’s not reversible, so this is the time you sign this life away.”

This Doctor seems to know that he is killing a “life.”Read more abortion doctors and clinic workers talking about how they know abortion kills babies here.

See a picture of what a 16-week-old baby looks like after he or she has been aborted this way.

(Incidentally, it is possible to have laminaria removed after the cervix has already begun to dilate. It was not too late for her to change her mind, although the risk of miscarriage would have been high, it is quite possible that the baby could be saved in that situation)

Abortionist is aware abortion ends a life

William Harrison, abortionist:

No one, neither the patient receiving an abortion, nor the person doing the abortion, is ever, at anytime, unaware that they are ending a life.

Abortionist “this has to be killing”

From an abortionist:

“I don’t think that anyone can say that abortion is right… It’s a form of life… This has to be killing… The question then becomes, “Is this kind of killing justifiable?” In my mind, it is justifiable, but only with the informed consent of the mother… Why kid ourselves? It’s better to say, “This is a life, albeit an early life. Giving it that kind of respect, and then make the decision.”

Doctor: “We Don’t Have to Watch the Baby Die”

Saline abortion were commonly done in the 1970s, 80s and early 90s. In these abortions, the abortionist injects a caustic saline solution in to the mother’s uterus. The saline solution burns the baby’s skin and poisons him over the course of several hours, and the woman then goes through labor to “give birth” to a dead child.

When these abortions were performed, doctors could inject the solution and then leave nurses to handle the actual “birth” and removal of the dead baby.

According to one doctor who did these types of abortions:

“If the abortion is well done, we don’t have to watch the baby die. So we inject a salt solution.”

Russell Sacco, abortion doctor,

“Infants Aborted Alive: Officials Wink at Laws” The Oregon Journal (March 14, 1982).

Note the use of the word “baby.” this doctor knows that abortion kills babies

Saline abortions were generally done in the second and early third trimester. Abortions are still done at this time, but usually by different methods.

George Tiller Admitted he Killed a “Baby”

Dr. George Tiller, handing a photo of a dead late-term fetus he had aborted to pro-choice legislator Ruby Gilbert during a tour of his late-term abortion clinic:

“This baby looks pretty good, I’m sorry that the baby had a lot of problems. But it did.”

“Tours provide insight into abortion”, The Wichita Eagle, October 7, 1997

On his website, Tiller used the word “baby” 13 times.

Abortionist Describes Women’s Grief and Mourning After Abortions

From a 1989 interview with Dr. Julius Fogel, psychiatrist and obstetrician who performs abortions:

“There is no question about the emotional grief and mourning following an abortion… many come in [to the office even years later] — some are just mute, some hostile.  Some burst out crying… there is no question in my mind we are disturbing a life process.”

Interview with Coleman McCarthy “Does Abortion Harden Maternal Instinct?”  National Catholic Reporter, February 24, 1989

Abortion Clinic Owner: “Clearly, It’s Life”

According to “Michelle” who owns an abortion clinic:

“I’ve thought through this issue, to do it as long as I have, and I have to sleep well at night… Is it life? Clearly it’s life. Does it deserve protection? My answer is “no.” The bottom line, you have two competing interests: the mother and the baby (or the embryo or the fertilized egg). And sometime during that nine month gestation, a woman’s rights are going to digress. At that point, I guess, rights can be ascribed to the fetus.”

She knows that “it” is life, and she even uses the term “baby.”

Clinic Director Admits That Abortion Is Killing

In an article in Newsweek, author Martha Brant discusses how some clinic directors have decided to dispense with the propaganda and tell women the truth – that abortion kills babies.  She mentions that these clinic workers are going to a summit on abortion rights and says:

Independent abortion clinic directors like Peg Johnston in New York state—who will attend the meeting in D.C.—even use words like “baby” and “killing” because that is what many women who come to her say and feel.

“I’m trying to figure out how I can get [them] through this experience so that [they] can cope,” says Johnston, whose clinic was the target of Operation Rescue protestors and their bloody fetus posters starting in the late 1980s.

Today, Johnston shows her patients their own fetal tissue if they want to see it. “Mostly it’s reassuring. You could say we have our own gory pictures,” she says. Johnston has often been at odds with the pro-choice leadership.”

Martha Brant “Politics of Choice” Newsweek Feb 27, 2006

It is very rare for clinic workers to tell the truth about the unborn baby and about what abortion does to children – see this section where clinic workers described the  “counseling” at their clinics

It is not surprising that these clinic workers are “at odds with pro-choice leadership.”
