Former abortion worker: overweight women were charged more

From Shelley Guillory, who worked in an abortion facility called Delta Women’s Clinic.

“The one thing I found about our clinic that was humiliating and dehumanizing was that if a larger woman came in, she was charged an additional $150 to $200 because she created a little bit more difficulty because of her size. Whether the abortion was complicated or not. Because she was large, she was charged extra.”

Guillory said this in a webcast sponsored by Abby Johnson’s group And Then There Were None.

Johnson commented on Guillory’s revelation:

“We’ve heard that before. It’s not something we did at our clinic, but it’s something we’ve heard before, that they basically had an overweight fee for women who weighed a little more. They would charge more for the abortion procedure, which is so vile and so anti-empowerment – I mean like, how good does that make you feel? Like, you’re over 195 pounds, you’re getting a fee for that. It’s so anti-woman and so against everything they say they are about.… I hear all the time – Planned Parenthood, the abortion industry, talking about how we don’t want to shame women, no shame, no stigma, blah blah blah, unless you’re certain size, then we’re going to charge you more to perform an abortion.”

Abortionist had drinking problem

Judy was an abortion clinic worker working for an abortionist who was always drunk. When she got pregnant with a wanted baby, the abortionist promised he would be sober when he delivered her baby. He had no problem being drunk when he did abortions:

“The OB/GYN doctor I worked for said, “Judy, when you have your baby, I promise not to be drunk on that day; I will remain sober for your C-section.” I was happy to know that he didn’t want to make any mistakes concerning me or my baby.

I truly believed that the doctor drank excessively because deep down in his heart, he knew that he was taking lives through abortion, and this must’ve weighed heavily upon his conscience. It was only two years after the birth of my daughter that he died in a horrible automobile accident that had been caused by his drinking. After the birth of my daughter, I never went back to work at that clinic.”

Abby Johnson on Planned Parenthood abortion quotas

In a webcast by And Then There Were None, former Planned parenthood director Abby Johnson talks about Planned Parenthood abortion quotas:

“There’s a quota for everything. So why wouldn’t there be a quota for abortion, right? Because that’s just another service they provide. However, it is their most revenue generating service.”

She goes on to say:

And I can tell you, nobody got in trouble, nobody’s heads rolled if we weren’t meeting our family planning quota. But when we weren’t meeting our abortion clinic quota, that was when, it was like, we’re going to have to start firing people, you guys have got to step it up. And I remember getting into an argument with my boss one time (this is right before I left) because I said, I don’t know how you want me to – what you want me to do? Do you want me to go out on the streets and start asking people if they are pregnant and get them in the door? I mean, there’s only so many people that you can get in the door and talk them into having an abortion. That’s essentially what we were doing. We were salespeople for the abortion industry.

This is not the first time Abby Johnson spoke out about Planned Parenthood abortion quotas. You can read more her

Innocent comment prompts abortion worker to quit

Julie worked in an abortion clinic, and saw the torn apart bodies of aborted babies daily. One day, an acquaintance, who did not know she worked at an abortion clinic, asked her a question that hit her hard. The acquaintance mistakenly thought she helped deliver babies.  From The American Feminist:

“Shortly before making the decision to leave, Julie experienced an internal jolt from a casual comment. The mother of a man she was dating, not knowing much about her job, once said, “It must be so neat to be around all those babies!… After Julie left the clinic, she spent years working with preemies and loved it.”

Many abortion workers hide what they do, due to stigma, or at least refrain from talking about their jobs to people they do not know well.

Former Planned Parenthood worker: Abortion calls took priority

In an article in The American Feminist, former Planned Parenthood worker Rhyan explained how Planned Parenthood prioritized calls from women seeking abortions.

From the article:

The sales began with the automated answering system that picked up all calls first. The pleasant, recorded voice invited callers to press one number if they wanted birth control, another for a well woman exam, and another for abortion. All abortion calls were automatically jumped to the front of the calling queue.

Rhyan added that “If you were calling for birth control, you could wait 20 minutes to get a phone operator.” “Closing the sale” on abortions was also supported by Planned Parenthood’s policy of requiring callers to set an appointment prior to discussing costs.

Planned Parenthood only offered abortion financial aid to Black women

Rhyan worked at Planned Parenthood for 4 months. She was featured in an article in The American Feminist. Her job was scheduling abortions. She was told to offer financial aid only to Black women. Here is an excerpt from The American Feminist:

[Rhyan] soon observed that she was supposed to screen and offer [financial] assistance to callers “who sounded “hood” or “ghetto” – but not to ask callers who sounded “white or preppy” if they might need financial assistance. This was never explicitly stated, Rhyan said, but, “I’m human. I can figure out the pattern.” Her supervisor would listen to calls; anytime she offered financial screening to a client who sounded white or “Valley girl,” her boss would say, Why did you ask her that? “I realized it was a certain type of person they were asking me to screen,” Rhyan said. They were expecting to schedule about 40 abortions daily, so if the client sounded black, Rhyan, who is black, would hurry up and screen her to keep calls moving.

She says:

“I woke up one day and realized I was no different than a slave trader.”

Planned Parenthood offered financial aid to African Americans for abortion, but not for any other service.

Rhyan also called Planned Parenthood “Plantation Parenthood” in the article.

Former clinic worker: Ann Caldwell

Ann Caldwell, who later co-edited a book of women’s abortion stories, had an abortion and then worked in a clinic. She tells her story:

“I shall never forget the sounds of the suction machine, the odors of the medical room, or the harsh demeanor of the nurse. I cried uncontrollably for a day. I was very sad at the time, but I quickly buried it… Within several months, I was getting such poor grades in school that a professor told me, “Frankly, I don’t know how you got admitted to this university.” My slide lasted several years, despite the fact that my grades improved. I earned a Master’s degree, but my self-esteem was so poor that I spent three years dating a guy who was addicted to drugs.

To earn money to pay my tuition, I worked every Saturday and Wednesday at the local abortion center. The money was great, and I knew what to tell the girls to expect. I passed out birth-control pills, explained what would happen, and even held their hands during the procedure. The sights and sounds were very familiar to me. Once the doctor asked if I wanted to watch the procedure, which I thought would be interesting… It was so unforgettable, gruesome, and shocking that I could no longer keep my pain buried.

Meeting and marrying my husband was the beginning of my healing. I was so sure that God would punish me for my abortion by not letting us have children that I was impatient to start a family. My first pregnancy was spent awake at night in tears, sobbing over the lost baby, over my own sin, and over the agony my aborted child endured.”

In addition to the pro-life book, Caldwell helped establish the National Memorial for the Unborn.

Planned Parenthood manager: we never had an adoption

Former Planned Parenthood manager Sue Thayer:

“Well, in my affiliate an adoption referral was if a woman picked up that envelope, that bag and it had a pamphlet in it about adoption. That counted as an adoption referral. In all my years there, never in the 17 centers across Iowa, did we have an adoption. Not once.”

Planned Parenthood worker: Women cry after abortion

A Planned Parenthood worker called Dr. Michael Brown’s radio show and asked if God could ever forgive her for working in an abortion clinic. Brown asks her about the women who have abortions:

Radio Host Dr. Michael Brown: The women that come in and out. When you see them having, making this decision, when you see them leaving, is it just some wonderful, happy event for them as well?

Planned Parenthood worker: Oh God no. They cry, and the people, we call them support people that are with them, if they come with a parent, the parents will usually cry – they’re very somber and they cry a lot and we have journals in the back, in the recovery room, where we encourage them to write down their feelings, things like that – and I read them. They’re never happy. They always regret it.”

Planned Parenthood worker: It’s a baby

An anonymous Planned Parenthood worker called Dr. Michael Brown’s “The Line of Fire” radio show.  She asked Brown whether God would ever forgive her for working in an abortion clinic. She then says:

14 weeks
14 weeks

“When I started working there they told me I didn’t have to see anything in the back but that’s not really true. As the manager, you have to do all the other jobs other than procedures because I’m not a clinician. But there’s a room in the back and it’s called a POC room. And it’s “products of conception.” It’s where they take [abortion remains] to process. They refer to it either as tissue or fetus but I saw it for the first time. It’s a baby.

It’s not tissue.… It’s really bad. It is, it’s a baby – there is legs and there’s arms and there’s eyes – it’s a baby. And what got me today, the reason why I’m so upset is because on an ultrasound, sometimes you have to do ultrasounds while you’re doing it – if you’re far enough along, it looks like they’re fighting back. [It’s] murder…. It’s just not right.”
