Dr. John Willke on legal and illegal abortion deaths

One article on illegal abortion said the following:

In a telephone interview, [Pro-life activist Dr. John] Willke said “nobody has the slightest idea” how many illegal abortions took place before 1973.

He said, however, the number of abortion-related deaths was more concrete because “a perforated uterus – which is evident on autopsy – a massive infection, a hemorrhage . . . (make it) pretty obvious what has happened.”

Willke said that in the 1950s, an average of 250 women a year were reported to have died in the United States due to illegal abortions. But by 1966, while abortion was still illegal everywhere, the annual number of reported deaths had dropped to 128. In 1972, the year before Roe vs. Wade, 39 abortion-related deaths were reported.

After 1973, when the ban ended in all states, “illegal abortion presumably disappeared,” Willke said. “If, in fact, the elimination of illegal abortion eliminated back alleys, there should have been a perceptible drop in the number of women dying. That didn’t happen. The line didn’t even blip from 1967 to 1973 and 1974. . . . It just kept going down at the same slow rate. There was no evidence of a decline in mortality from legalization.”

Pictures: Abortions at 2 Months

This is a picture of a 7-week-old unborn baby, at just under 2 months

And here is a picture of an unborn baby who is 2 months old

Before you look at the pictures of the babies aborted at 2 months, I want to share something with you. If you are woman considering abortion, and you came to this page wanting to find out more, please read the short little message that my friend Jewels Green wrote just for you. If you are not a woman seeking an abortion, and/or don’t want to read it, just scroll down to see the pictures. Jewels Green worked in an abortion clinic. Her clinic only provided 1st trimester abortions. She held women’s hands, watched women cry as they had their abortions. And in the backroom, she handled the broken pieces of the babies, holding the aborted babys’ feet up to a little chart to verify how far along the pregnancies were for the clinic’s paperwork. Even in the 1st trimester, many of the babies were fully  formed, like this one.

Jewels Green also had an abortion herself. She deeply regrets it. Her abortion led to a suicide attempt and many many years of emotional pain. She has experienced abortion both as a provider and as a patient.

When I spoke to her about this page, I asked her what she would want to say to someone considering an abortion. She sent me the following:

Dear Mom,

You’re thinking abortion is the right thing to do. Abortion is the best–and only–solution for you right now. How can you afford a child? What will your parents say? What about school? What about your boyfriend or husband?
Please take your time to think this through. “I have thought this through,” you say. “This is the only way,” you say. “This just isn’t the right time in my life for a baby,” you say.
Give me a chance, I say.
This isn’t the right time for me to die, I say.
Please.
Love,
me

Here is an excerpt:

“Working in the autoclave room was never, ever easy. I saw my lost child in every jar of aborted baby parts. One night after working autoclave my nightmares about dead babies were so gruesome and terrifying and intense I met with the clinic’s director to talk about my feelings. She was very understanding, open and honest, and painfully forthright when she told me, “What we do here is end a life. Pure and simple. There is no disputing this fact.”

Birthright is another excellent organization that helps women considering abortion. They have centers mostly in English speaking countries. They are not affiliated with any religion. I called them once. When I told them I was pro-life, they made a point to tell me they were “not political” They will not try to sway your decision.

Pro-lifers arrange medical care for pregnant woman without insurance

The Baptist Press reported a story where some pro-life activists using a mobile ultrasound unit helped a woman in the 3rd trimester of her pregnancy acquire medical care.

“One young woman came by our mobile center who was 33 weeks along in her pregnancy and had not had any prenatal care,” Hendry recounted. “She wasn’t able to qualify for Medicaid and didn’t have health insurance.

“We provided her with her first ultrasound where she could see her fully developed baby, which will be born in the next several weeks,” Hendry said, adding, “It’s always an amazing moment when you are able to show mothers the new life that is living and growing inside their womb.”

The Florida Baptist team connected the woman with a nurse midwife to help with her needs through the remainder of her pregnancy and afterward.”

“Mobile ultrasound unit rescues ‘2 babies & 2 souls’ in 1 day” Baptist press Jul 26, 2011

Even though abortion was not a concern for this woman, the pro-lifers were still there to help her and her baby. The picture many people have of pro-lifers who go to abortion clinics is that of self-righteous men and women harassing abortion patients, but many of the sidewalk counselors and ministries offer real help to women.

Clinic escort: We present abortion in the “cheeriest” way, “Roses, sunshine, and unicorns”

Many pro-choice activists know that despite the pro-choice movement’s propaganda that abortion is beneficial to women, at least some women suffer from ambivalence before their abortions and grief afterwards. According to one abortion clinic escort:

“The emotionally honest approach is to acknowledge the ambivalence [of women having abortions], to acknowledge all of the complex bouquet of feelings and emotions that comes out of this decision. That’s the emotionally honest approach. But I completely understand the flipside, which is the knee-jerk reaction, where we’re under attack by all these anti-choicers, we have to present the cheeriest side, just for PR sake, we have to present women who are relieved. They’ve made a tough decision, they made the best of a bad situation, but now they’re relieved that everything is fine and happy and roses and sunshine and unicorns because that’s how to present it public relations wise.”

Sarah Erdreich Generation Roe: inside the Future of the Pro-Choice Movement (New York: Seven Stories Press, 2013) 22 – 23

Many studies have documented that women do suffer after their abortions, that there is a higher rate of substance abuse, depression, psychiatric hospitalizations, and suicide in women who have had abortions. In fact, teenagers who have had abortions are 10 times more likely to commit suicide that teenagers who have not

Abortion is not all “unicorns, sunshine and roses” by any means. And this is what it does to an unborn child

Alexander Sanger: “Reproductive Freedom” more valuable than free speech and religion

Alexander Sanger, abortion advocate and descendent of Planned Parenthood founder and controversial figure Margaret Sanger, said the following:

“Reproductive freedom is vital to humanity. It is even more vital than all the other freedoms that we cherish – freedom of religion, freedom of thought and speech, and the freedom to live our lives as we see fit. Humanity has these freedoms, or should have them, because they add to human happiness and make for a better world. So does reproductive freedom.”

The unborn baby below is 12 weeks old, still in the first trimester, when most abortions take place. Thousands of babies are aborted at his age every week. Click here to see pictures of what babies this age look like after an abortion.

Is the right to kill children like him really more important than the right to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, etc.?

Patient: “The [Abortion] doctor’s name includes SATAN, just what he is”

Cesare Santangelo of the Washington Surgi-Clinic has been exposed as having no problem with allowing unborn babies to die following failed abortions.

According to his patients:

Not so good points: I think he is rough (my exam was very painful) and his D.C. office/waiting room was extremely cramped and messy.

***

“Waiting room is tiny and you have to wait all day to be seen (most of the day the dr is not even there). We wanted our child but had to terminate for medical reasons. The doctor nor his staff cared in the slightest and were very rude and inconsiderate. We received no counseling or instructions. When we tried to leave they refused to help because the medicine they already gave would cause a miscarriage. They had no where near enough staff to handle an emergency and no one runs the front desk or is around to ask questions.”

***

I think about the day that I had an abortion in December 1999. I also received no counseling whatsoever from Dr. Santangelo. It was like a “cattle call” abortion clinic. You waited a couple of hours with other women, and then you and the other women were taken back to a big room. You took a sedative and then you were called back to the individual rooms where it took like 5-10 minutes. I didn’t see the doctor until literally the very last moments before the abortion. No counseling at all and rushed the procedure. Paid around $250 all in. Disgusting. Lowest day of my life and I agree that the guy is a low life.

***

This doctor practices in the facilitation of child birthing but he is also a abortion doctor….up to 24 weeks at 2112 F Street NW, 4th floor. The staff was rude and manipulative and I did not receive counseling prior to being administered dilation medication. I asked for the medicine to be taken out but was told it would cause miscarriage or infection. The doctor’s name includes SATAN, just what he looks like and is

Researchers examined reasons why many relationships break up after abortions

Commenting on the high percentage of breakups in relationships after abortion, researchers said:

“If your partner was supportive of your decision to have an abortion, and then is surprised to find himself feeling angry, depressed or grief stricken, you may feel guilty. You also might find yourself feeling angry, betrayed and confused… You may be feeling guilty about hurting your husband or boyfriend because you did talk to him about the pregnancy and he wanted to keep the baby.”

Dr. Carolyn Westhoff, abortionist, describes puncturing the skull of an unborn baby

20-22 weeks. Typical age for this type of abortion

It is, in my experience and my opinion, less risky to put a hole in the base of the skull. Because the contents of the skull are liquid the skull contents may often drain out spontaneously as soon as there is a hole in the skull.”

Dr. Carolyn Westhoff, abortionist, in sworn testimony in National Abortion Federation, et. al. v. Ashcroft, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, April 2, 2004. She is describing a partial-birth abortion, where the skull is punctured in the brains are drained or sucked out. This procedure is now illegal, and abortions at that stage are done by dismemberment D&E
