“The majority of women who abort do so because they know that the unwelcome child, born of constraint or misfortune, will be wounded in some unacceptable way. As Artemis might kill a wounded animal rather than allow it to limp along miserably, so a mother wishes to spare the child painful destiny.”

abortion at 10 weeks- justified to save the baby pain?
Frances Kissling, President and CEO, Catholics for a Free Choice:
“I agree that the way in which the arguments for legal abortion have been made include this inability to publicly deal with the fact that abortion takes a life.”
“The existence of a safe, surgical, legal abortion is often a genuine moral blessing, despite a degree of moral ambiguity that needs to be acknowledged.”

“In South Korea, where fetal testing to determine sex is common, male births exceed female births by 14% in contrast to a worldwide average of 5%. In Guangdong province, the China news agency Xinhua reported, 500,000 bachelors are approaching middle-age without hopes of marrying, because they outnumber women ages 30 – 45 by more than 10 to 1.”

Dr. Joseph Bruner has operated on second trimester unborn babies with spina bifida. According to one article, “to ease the strain Dr. Bruner often talks to the unborn children while he works – to soothe them and keep them quiet, and to let them know what is going on. Sometimes he conveys a message from the parents, “We love you. We are trying our best to help.”

Yet Dr. Bruner is also an abortionist who kills children with spina bifida. He says this is “an increasingly difficult position to be in. Because we are performing surgery to improve the lifestyle of fetuses who have spina bifida, it is difficult to justify an operation that could also take that life away. As we walk through this minefield, society is going to have to take a good, hard look at itself, because it is untenable to hold both views.”

10 to 12% of all abortions are done in the second trimester or later.
According to Planned Parenthood, there were 9,200 adoption referrals in 1997, but that number had dropped to 2,486 by 2000.
“That’s a whopping 73.5 percent decrease from what they were in 1997,” said Ed Szymkowiak, spokesman for STOPP International, a subsidiary organization of the American Life League. “During the same time period, Planned Parenthood’s abortion procedures increased 19.3 percent.”

China’s one child policy leads to many coerced abortions. From pro-choice author Janet Hadley:
“In 1991, for example, in Southern China’s Guandong Province, officials surrounded a village one September night and searched all the houses and forced pregnant women into trucks. They were driven to the hospital for forced abortions; one woman gave birth on a journey, but a doctor killed her baby with an injection.”
unborn baby at seven months
“…Across the country, implementation of the one child campaign has been left to local officials. Killing excess babies, often crushing their skulls at the moment of birth, was described as a “remedial measure” — the euphemism for abortions inspired by this policy. Pregnant women hid in caves and woods to give birth, rather than face abortions at seven, eight, and nine months of pregnancy. Despite vigorous attempts to deny such stories and discredit their sources, reports of late-term abortions, lethal injections at birth, infanticide and secret births seep steadily out of China year by year.”
