Abby Johnson’s abortion counselor told her she’d had 9 abortions

I had a surgical abortion when I was 20 years old. I don’t remember many details. But what I do remember was not pleasant.

I don’t remember how far along I was in my pregnancy. I do know that I paid $500.00 for my abortion.

I went through a group counseling session with several other women. My “counselor” told me that she had 9 previous abortions. I think she said it to make us feel better somehow…and it worked.

Planned Parenthood praises abortion regulations after opposing them in every state that has proposed them

Planned Parenthood spokesperson Rebecca Cavanaugh on the closing of 2 abortion the clinics because they violated regulations and were operating under unsafe conditions:

“These inspections and regulations are important and the clinics which were closed this week were not operating under the rules and regulations which are already in place, and we support them being closed. But we worry that for women with limited financial means, or limited means of transportation, this just removed two options.”

This is ironic because Planned Parenthood fought the law requiring inspections for clinics to and now. Now, however, they realize they have to do damage control.

The law that closed the clinics went into effect because 2 women died at them, and there were various reports of unhealthy and unsafe conditions. Also from Planned Parenthood:

“Gosnell absolutely changed things, because we are seeing a lot more unannounced inspections to our facilities, which we welcome,”

“Our concern is that more clinics will have to close, and that will remove more choices for women.”

“That we welcome.” This is completely untrue – Planned Parenthood describes itself as opposing such laws on their website.

The New York Times Lied About Number of Illegal Abortion Deaths

“By 1967, the year  the [New York Times] was declaring 4000 women dead annually from abortion, there were only 133 such deaths on record. The New York Times had allowed itself an editorial adjustment of slightly more than 3000%.”

The abortion pill is “effective and safe.” Or not.

Abortion activist Laurence Lader on the abortion pill:

“Two of the pill’s important attributes are its effectiveness and safety… It works by producing a heavy menstrual flow, virtually equivalent to a woman’s normal period. There is no sign of an actual person, nothing resembling a possible finger or toe.… An objective observer could scarcely claim that anything had been “killed.”

Laurence Lader. A Private Matter: RU-486 And the Abortion Crisis (Amherst, New York: Prometheus Books, 1995)

Also from that book, the comments of Dr. Elizabeth Aubeny:

“Most women have no pain at all.”

These things were said before the abortion pill became widely available. Women have found their experiences with it to be nothing like with these 2 pro-choicers describe. Read some accounts of abortions by pill: (this woman called it “like giving birth”), This woman threw up for 3 days and had diarrhea, and this woman, described “debilitating, convulsing cramps”This woman, described her aborted baby is being “beautifully formed,” This woman “passed out from the pain.”And this woman was almost killed by the abortion pill.

Dr. John Willke on legal and illegal abortion deaths

One article on illegal abortion said the following:

In a telephone interview, [Pro-life activist Dr. John] Willke said “nobody has the slightest idea” how many illegal abortions took place before 1973.

He said, however, the number of abortion-related deaths was more concrete because “a perforated uterus – which is evident on autopsy – a massive infection, a hemorrhage . . . (make it) pretty obvious what has happened.”

Willke said that in the 1950s, an average of 250 women a year were reported to have died in the United States due to illegal abortions. But by 1966, while abortion was still illegal everywhere, the annual number of reported deaths had dropped to 128. In 1972, the year before Roe vs. Wade, 39 abortion-related deaths were reported.

After 1973, when the ban ended in all states, “illegal abortion presumably disappeared,” Willke said. “If, in fact, the elimination of illegal abortion eliminated back alleys, there should have been a perceptible drop in the number of women dying. That didn’t happen. The line didn’t even blip from 1967 to 1973 and 1974. . . . It just kept going down at the same slow rate. There was no evidence of a decline in mortality from legalization.”

Pro-choicer: Its “a tiny, tiny, tiny spot of blood”

7 weeks, Most abortions are done at this state or later

From a pro-lifer

“One abortion activist I’ve had the pleasure of associating with in public spectacles was insistent before an audience that most abortions occur so early in fetal development that all you’re dealing with is a “tiny, tiny, tiny little spot of blood.”

Clinic worker: many women have 10+ abortions

A woman was unsure about having an abortion. An abortion clinic worker told her the following:

“I have had many abortions. I have have [sic] many close friends who have had many abortions. Working at a clinic we have a lot of women who have had 10+ abortions. I have a child, some of them have children and none have had problems becoming pregnant because of the abortions. You are more likely to have problems with fertility after giving birth than having a properly performed abortion.”

Legal abortion deaths were higher than illegal ones, prior to Roe versus Wade

David Reardon cites statistics from Hilger’s Medical Hazards of Abortion on abortion deaths after abortion was legalized in New York (before Roe versus Wade):

“In contrast to New York’s “official” safety record for abortion, a 1971 study done by Dr. Joseph J Rovinsky concluded that the actual abortion mortality rate in New York, was no less than 38 per 100,000. Indeed, by 1972, the year prior to Roe versus Wade, the reported number of women who died from legal abortion exceeded the number dying from illegal abortion by almost 2 to 1.

Only after all requirements for reporting were struck down [did] the number of reported deaths from legal abortion even begin to level off.”

Hilger’s Medical Hazards of Abortion, Abortion and Social Justice, 63 Quoted in David C Reardon Aborted Women: Silent No More (Westchester, Illinois: Crossway books, 1987) 112

When abortion was legalized, many “back alley” abortionist simply hung up their shingles and began practicing abortion legally. Read about illegal abortions and abortion deaths here. Read about women who have died from legal abortion here.

There was no “detectable change” in the number of abortion deaths after legalization

A study showed that the legalization of abortion did not lead to a big decrease in abortion related deaths. This was not what pro-choicers claimed would happen when abortion was legalized:

“As a result, there has been no detectable change in the relative frequency of abortion-related maternal death due to induced abortion in the United States in the last 30 years. It is extremely important that there has been no significant impact on the relative frequency of abortion related maternal death due to induced abortion in the United States since the legalization of abortion.

The reason for this appears to be quite simple. While maternal death due to criminal abortion appear to be decreasing, they have been replaced, almost one for one, by maternal deaths due to legal abortion.”

Unborn baby at 3 months = “clump of cells” says abortion clinic

A woman was counseled at an abortion clinic and told that her baby at 3 months was “just a clump of cells.”

“When I saw that a 3-month-old “clump of cells” had fingers and toes and was a tiny, perfectly formed baby, I became really hysterical.

I’ve been lied to and misled, and I’m sure thousands of other women are being just as poorly informed and badly served. To prove it, John [her husband] and I visited most every clinic in Cleveland. I pretended I was pregnant and asked for guidance.

What we heard was incredible. One counselor told us the fetus did not begin to resemble human being until 7 months, another said 5 months, and so it went.”
