Connection between Unwanted Pregnancy and Abused Children

“There is a contention that unwanted conceptions tend to have undesirable effects… The direct evidence for such a relationship is almost completely lacking, except for a few fragments of retrospective evidence. It was the hope of this article to find more convincing systematic research evidence and to give some idea of the amount of relationship between unwanted conception and undesirable effect on children. This hope has been disappointed.”

E. Pohlman. “Unwanted Conception, Research on Undesirable Consequences” Eugenics Quarterly, volume 14, 1967, P143

This statement was made around the time that pro-abortionists were advocating to make abortion legal. In reality, abortion itself is the ultimate child abuse – see below.

OB/GYN supports parental notification and consent

“Girls need regular medical follow-up after an abortion to detect future complications. It is highly unlikely that a teenage girl will seek appropriate treatment for complications arising from secret abortion, thus endangering her health. I cannot go home with a young girl, therefore the care that I can provide is limited to my office – only parents can provide care beyond that.”

Drea Olmstead, “Secrecy Not the Answer in Abortion Decision” Eugene (OR) Register – Guard, November 3, 2006

She is obstetrician gynecologist who practices in Oregon, where in 2006 voters turned down a ballot measure that would’ve made it mandatory for teens to acquire parental consent for abortion.

Abortion Part of “Holistic Approach to Health Care”

Dr. Mila Means, who has been trying to open an abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas:

“I have always kind of not been in the mainstream. I’ve always had a different idea of what health care should be and how we should be advocates for people’s wellness. And I think abortion is part of the holistic approach to health care, having the ability for people to make that decision when they need to.”

it is “Unsettling” for Baby to Be Born Alive, Says Abortionist

An abortionist said

“We use urea to be certain that we affect fetal death. It is unsettling to all personnel to deliver these fetuses when they are not stillborn.”

10-18-year-olds in “total denial”make up bulk of late-term patients

“Our biggest group is 10-to-18-year-olds in total denial,” says an official at one Southern clinic, making a common observation. Another category consists of women who find out late that they are pregnant: very young teens with irregular menstrual periods and women in their late 40s who mistakenly thought they had entered menopause. In interviews with 1,000 abortion patients, University of Alabama sociologist Michele Wilson found that compared with women who had abortions in the first trimester, those getting later abortions were more likely to be young, to live with their parents, and to have conferred with them on this decision. She concluded that some of the abortions were performed later because the women had to take more time to build family consensus for the choice.

this article shows that late-term abortions  are usually done on healthy women with healthy pregnancies

Type of pain experienced during abortion

One study that relied on questionnaires showed that the total pain scores (given by women having abortions):

“found that the average abortion pain ranked higher than that experienced by people suffering from fractures, sprains, neuralgia, arthritis, and was equal to that reported by amputees experiencing phantom limb pain and patients with cancer.”

Belanger E., Melzack R, Lauzon P. Pain of the First Trimester Abortion: a Study of Psychosocial and Medical Predictors. Pain 1989 March; 36 (3): 339 – 50

This study seems to indicate that many women find abortion extremely painful.

And they are often quite painful for the baby:

clinic worker on abortion patients

Wendy Botwin, who works in an abortion clinic as a head counselor:

“We see patients anywhere from eleven years old to fifty… The majority of the clinic’s clientele are teenagers and people in their 20s. People have histories now. It’s amazing the number of pregnancies an 18-year-old can walk in with it already. They’re 18-year-old who had two kids, have had two abortions, and it had a miscarriage. This is not unusual. We see it a lot.”

Anecdotal Evidence of Pain

“Little is known about the accuracy and extent of information given to abortion patients about the level of pain to expect… Consent forms give the impression that the sensation will resemble heavy menstrual cramps. But this is not what women report. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the pain levels during abortion can reach the severe range.”

Surgical Abortions Not Done before Seven Weeks

According to one clinic worker:

seven weeks

“As a counselor, I review their medical history and decide whether the patient should be at our clinic, in a hospital, or elsewhere. Then, we do an ultrasound to determine how many weeks pregnant she is… The ultrasound also alerts the clinic staff to other things, such as if the woman is carrying twins… A woman needs to be at least seven weeks pregnant to get an abortion. If it’s too early, there’s a greater chance of having an incomplete abortion or a missed abortion. Before seven weeks, the doctor can’t even see the pregnancy. Also, the cervix and uterus are really tiny before seven weeks, so would be much easier to cause a perforation or cut.”

Felicia Lowenstein. The Abortion Battle: Looking at Both Sides (Springfield, New Jersey: Enslow Publishers, 1996)  94 to 95

This quote shows how ultrasounds are necessary to determine whether a woman needs a surgical or medical (RU-486) abortion. Pro-choicers often argue against making ultrasounds mandatory before abortions, but they are, in reality, an important part of medical care.Surgical abortions are generally not done before seven weeks.

Patricia E. Bauer on babies with disabilities

“In ancient Greece, babies with disabilities were left out in the elements to die. We in America rely on prenatal genetic testing to make our selections in private, but the effect on society is the same. Margaret’s [her daughter with down syndrome] old pediatrician tells me that years ago he used to have a steady stream of patients with down syndrome. Not anymore. Where did they go, I wonder. On the Westside of LA, they aren’t being born anymore.”
