Anecdotal Evidence of Pain

“Little is known about the accuracy and extent of information given to abortion patients about the level of pain to expect… Consent forms give the impression that the sensation will resemble heavy menstrual cramps. But this is not what women report. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the pain levels during abortion can reach the severe range.”

Medicaid abortions intended to eliminate poor people

10 weeks

“The Commission on Population Growth established by Pres. Richard Nixon in 1970 released three reports in March 1972, where they called for Medicaid funded abortion as is necessary weapons in the “war on poverty” noting that “unwanted fertility is highest among those whose levels of education and income are lowest.”

Planned Parenthood on babies

“Babies are not sweet little things. They wet and dirty themselves, they get sick, they’re very expensive to take care of.”

Aborting babies and saving them

A British doctor said:

“I think it’s wrong in an NHS hospital you can have a poorly baby which is born 20 weeks prematurely, and have the NHS throw everything they have at that baby in an attempt to save its life, and in the next room have a healthy baby being aborted at 24 weeks. That anomaly needs to be corrected, and I don’t think it can continue any longer.”

Planned Parenthood: Children Are a Nuisance

“[Children at our office] are both a nuisance and a safety/liability risk. Children will not be allowed in any patient service area, and they may not be left unattended in the waiting room. If a client arrives with a child or children but without a caretaker, her appointment will be rescheduled. For obvious public relations reasons, we will not be posting the policy, but we need to translate it into a message that can be given to patients when making an appointment over the phone.”

Syracuse Planned Parenthood memo, described in “PP: Kids Are Nuisance” People Concerned for the Unborn Child, July – August 1992

On Abortion and Human Development

Edward R Frizell, M.D., PhD:

21 weeks – legal to abort in most states

“Pro-Abortion views regarding human development err in that they fail to grasp the facts as a whole. Their approach to human development typifies people who either have a very superficial knowledge of embryology or base their beliefs on the opinions of healthcare professionals who profit from performing abortions… It is essential to understand that science does not use developmental landmarks to “bestow” humanity… Human development is continuous process that begins with fertilization and ends with death… The presence or absence of a feature during human development allows us to say that an individual human being is more or less developed, but not more or less human.”

Edward R Frizell, M.D., PhD The Providence Evening Bulletin, 6/15/92

British doctors debate lowering abortion age limit

In London, about 3,000 abortions a year are carried out between 20 and 24 weeks. Doctors have argued that abortions should not be performed this late:

“There is an ethical problem that baby A can be terminated at 24 weeks’ gestation in one unit while baby B in a different unit, who was accidentally born before 24 weeks, may survive.”

Andrew Rowland, a trainee paediatrician

24 weeks

Part of the push to lower the abortion limit was the new ultrasound technology which could produce images like this one, taken at 24 weeks:

But other doctors disagree about lowering the legal limit for abortions. Retired obstetrician Wendy Savage said of the pictures:

20 weeks

“What we have seen are advancements in imaging. This may have raised emotions but they are not scientific evidence of the foetus developing any more rapidly.”

“The Logic of Abortion Is Merciless”

An article in The National Review discusses the horror of partial-birth abortions and late-term abortion in general:

“The campaign against partial birth abortion has revealed that the public’s moral sentiments, if not always its moral reasoning, remain healthy. It has revealed something, too, about the politicians, the writers, the judges, who support abortion on demand. They have watched a baby, partly out of the womb, have her skull punctured and her brains sucked out. They have been asked, “Must even this be tolerated?” and they have looked at this grisly scene and answered “yes. Even this.”   The logic of abortion is merciless.”

“Ruling Without Mercy” The National Review 6/28/00

The American Medical Association Opposed Abortion

American Medical Association Resolution 1859:

“Resolved, that while physicians have long been united in condemning the act of producing abortion, at every period of gestation, except as necessary for preserving the life of either mother or child, it has become the duty of this Association in view of the prevalence and increasing frequency of the crime, publicly to enter an earnest and solemn protest against such unwarrantable destruction of human life.

Resolved, that in pursuance of the grand and noble calling we profess, the saving of human lives, and the sacred responsibilities thereby devolving upon us, the Association present the subject to the attention of the several legislative assemblies of the Union, with the prayer that the laws by which the crime of procuring abortion is attempted to be controlled may be revised, and that such other action may be taken in the premises as they in their wisdom may deem necessary.

Resolved, that the Association request the zealous cooperation of the various State Medical Societies in pressing the subject upon her legislators of the respective states.”

Quoted in:

Dyer, Frederick “Horatio Robinson Storer, M.D. and the Physicians Crusade against Abortion” Life and Learning IX, 1998

Most people do not know that it was doctors, rather than feminists or laymen activists who opposed legal abortion and fought to protect unborn children in the 1800s. These doctors knew that life began at conception. At this time, also, most feminists such as Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton opposed abortion as well.
