Abortionist on why women have 2nd trimester abortions

Late Term abortionist Dr. Richard Hausknecht describes the reasons women get late-term abortions:

“There are a large number of second trimester terminations in this country and they are of two versions. There are the women who have seriously abnormal pregnancies, and then the larger group, who are usually young or indigent.”

The author of the article says:

“Among these women [who have late term abortions], doctors say, are teen-agers who deny their pregnancies, drug users and women who are menopausal or irregular in their periods.”

Former clinic worker on late term abortion

Margot, a former abortion clinic worker, was interviewed by Abby Johnson on a webcast done by And Then There Were None.  And Then There Were None is an organization that helps abortion center workers leave the abortion industry.  The organization has helped over 200 abortion facility workers and 7 full time abortionists leave their jobs.

Former abortion worker Margot worked in a late-term abortion facility in the POC room. POC stand for “products of conception,” a term clinic workers use for aborted babies. Jackie handled and inspected the fully formed body parts of late term babies killed in abortions.

At one point in the webcast, Abby Johnson asks her:

You worked at a late-term clinic. Can you share just a little bit, was there a specific profile of the women who came in? You know, we always hear from the abortion movement that the only women who have late-term abortions are women who have been given an extremely grave fetal diagnosis. Was that always the case in your clinic? Because I, you know for us, we referred women who had completely healthy pregnancies, who had completely healthy babies, to places like Doctor Tiller and Doctor Warren Hern in Colorado. So could you just speak to that a little bit. I’m sure that there were cases where there had been the anomaly diagnosed, but was that always the case in your clinic?

Johnson is responding to the common pro-abortion argument that all late term abortions are done because of horrible health problems experienced by the mother or baby. Many pro-choice organizations claim that late term abortions are only done in these dire circumstances- when the baby will die shortly after birth or be born horribly disabled.

Margot replies:

Almost never, Abby. Almost never. Almost never. I would say that the highest profile of women that were having the late-term abortions were completely normal pregnancies, quite often young, and sometimes had just had more fear of having to tell someone they were pregnant, or being so completely out of touch with their own body that they didn’t understand and how rapidly the pregnancy was progressing, or I don’t know.…

Overwhelmingly, the late-term procedures that we did were not for fetal anomalies. We did late-term procedures on women who were perimenopausal and didn’t want to be pregnant. We did them on teenagers.

It is a myth that late-term abortions are only done for fetal anomalies or disabilities. Of course, even in such cases one can argue that it is wrong to take a baby’s life just because they will be disabled. No one has the right to judge another person’s life not worth living and act as executioner for that person.

America has more D&E abortions than any other country

An abortion textbook gives statistics on late term D&E abortions:

“At least 125,000 D&E’s are performed annually in the United States, the highest number reported anywhere in the world. This number reflects in part the larger US population compared to that of other countries reporting data as well as a higher rate of abortion overall and of second trimester abortion in particular.”

Woman chooses not to abort 35 week twins

abby-aboutFormer abortion clinic director Abby Johnson wrote the following facebook post on 4/6/2016:

UPDATE!! The mother who was scheduled to abort her 35 week old twins has made a choice for life! She is back on schedule to deliver and place her twins with an adoptive family. Thank you all so much for your prayers. Please keep this whole situation in your continued prayers as this expectant mother is dealing with a lot of pressure in the final weeks of her pregnancy.

Also, please pray for the conversion of Dr. Curtis Boyd, the abortion doctor who was scheduled to take the lives of these babies today.

This quote shows that abortion is available at 35 weeks. To read more about late-term abortions, go here.

Planned Parenthood comments on bill restricting 3rd trimester abortions

A Planned Parenthood worker commented on the partial-birth abortion ban, which made a certain type of late-term abortion method of illegal.

“Clearly they’re anxious to prosecute anybody who’s doing second- or third-trimester abortions. I know people who have said that this would be the end of their third-trimester practice, and probably their second.”

Dr. Mary Campbell, medical director of Planned Parenthood of Metro Washington.

Head of abortion chain supports third trimester abortion

Ann Furedi is the director of the largest chain of abortion clinics in England. Here, she defends late-term abortion:

“We believe that the delivery of an abortion procedure in the second (and even third) trimester is preferable to its denial, since the denial of abortion has consequences for a woman’s life, for the lives that are touched by hers, and for the life of the child that will be born.”

Abortionist: We’ll ensure women can abort in the third trimester

Dr. Leroy Carhart, late term abortionist:

“we are going to do everything in our power to ensure that women still have an option for late-second- and the early-third-trimester abortions that are medically indicated.”

Sarah Kliff “The Abortion Evangelist” Newsweek August 31, 2009

All too often, “medically indicated” means abortions for almost any reason. Emotional health usually counts as as reason for abortions. If a woman says her pregnancy makes her anxious or depressed, that could be considered a “medically indicated” reason for abortion. At other times, there is a health problem with the baby. For example, when the baby has Down syndrome he or she will be aborted 90% of the time, often in the second or third trimester.

Abortionist tells why woman had 20+ week abortion

20 weeks
20 weeks

An abortionist gave this as an example of a patient who waited until after 20 weeks to have an abortion:

…I had a patient who had an unplanned pregnancy, and she thought she and her partner could make it work. She was getting prenatal care, but at 20 weeks she found out that he was married, had children with his wife, and also had children with another woman. She had to totally re-evaluate her life plans. She had two children from a previous relationship who were a bit older, and she had been in a partnership to raise them, and now she was looking at, “Do I have this baby while I’m with this big fat liar? Do I have this baby alone?” So that she found out late that she need to reconsider her ability to have another child. And she needed a long time to think about it correctly … and she had complete support from her family. I am, again, day by day, impressed by the genuine concern and thoughtful deliberation of patients referring to this issue, and I was so impressed by her careful thought process and that of her family and support people. So she did; she did decide to have an abortion. It was later.

Late term abortionist gives reasons why late term abortions are done

A late term abortionist talks about the reasons women get abortions late in pregnancy:

It’s a natural question: “why did she wait? Why wasn’t she there at six weeks rather than 18?” Maybe she had irregular periods, she didn’t have Mother Nature’s early warning system. All kinds of reasons. Maybe she was raped — there’s another level of denial that goes with that. There’s also the decision-making process. Women assess all their responsibilities and resources, and ask — do I have enough to be a good mom and have a baby? For some people they do that really fast, and for other people it takes longer.

18 weeks
18 weeks

Conversations about stress in a relationship, changes in employment status. Those decisions take longer. And then there’s the access to care — that gets into that issue of disparities. Poor women have to make the arrangements: time off work, time off school, childcare, travel. If you have a waiting period, you have to travel twice and it’s that much more expense. Those factors can all delay a woman.

Note that none of the reasons listed above have to do with a health problem in the mother or baby.

2 Illinois doctors talk about partial birth abortions

During the partial birth abortion trials, there was a much discussion about late term abortions and how often they were done. The pro-choice side claimed that late term abortions by partial birth (see here) were extremely rare and only done for the most extreme of reasons.

Illinois physicians M. LeRoy Sprang and Mark G. Neerhoff :

“The vast majority [are] done not in response to extreme medical conditions but on healthy mothers and healthy fetuses.” They point out that 56 percent of partial-birth abortions are done as a result of “fetal flaws . . . some as minor as a cleft lip,” while 9 percent involve maternal health problems, “of which the most common [is] depression.”

Mary E. Williams. ed. Abortion: Opposing Viewpoints (San Diego, California: Greenhaven Press, 2002) 13

Even though partial-birth abortions aren’t done anymore, the same is true for other late-term abortions done differently today
