Picketer Reaches out to Abortion Clinic Worker

A former clinic worker describes a pro-life woman who reached out to her while she was working in the clinic:

The woman’s name was Debra.

“I firmly believed, I thought she was a little misled, probably by the male religious leaders of the pro-life movement. I thought she was a little misled, but I really believed she cared about women. And so when my questions did get too strong, I couldn’t go to the Molly Yard and say, Molly, you got a minute? I went to Debra, and I started asking questions.”

Debra ended up helping the clinic worker leave the abortion business.

Baby Saved by Pro-life support

A woman who came to an abortion clinic bent on aborting her baby tells the following story:

“When I arrived, there was a long line of other women waiting for abortions. I could not see the doctor until I waited a long time. Eventually he saw me. He did an ultrasound examination of my abdomen to see the baby. When I asked to see it he refused. I asked him how big the baby was. He would not tell me. He said the abortion was going to be easy…However, by that time of the day I did not have time to wait for the abortion…I explained I had to leave. An appointment for the abortion was arranged for the next day, Nov 2, 1992. By that time in pregnancy, I could already feel the baby move inside me. I cried a lot on Nov 3 before I went to the clinic…Upon arrival at the clinic, I saw ladies outside carrying picture of unborn babies. I looked at the pictures and thought about my own baby. As I was going towards the door a lady asked “Can we help you?” I started crying …They asked if I knew how the baby looks like and they showed me a book about how the baby looks like as it grows inside the mother.

They also asked me about why I wanted an abortion. I told them about my financial problems…[They] helped me by paying my rent and helping to pay for the groceries [and] with maternity clothes and things for the baby. My daughter Emily was born on April 8, 1993.”

73% to 84% of Abortion Seeking Women Are Later Happy They Didn’t Abort

From studies on women who refused abortions and then went on to have their children:

73% and 84% in two studies of women who were refused abortions were later happy the pregnancy had not been ended.

Fewer Abortions in States Where Medicaid Doesn’t pay

From the Alan Guttmacher Institute:

“It was found that women in states with Medicaid funding for abortion have an abortion rate 3.9 times higher than women who aren’t covered…”

Rachel M MacNair, PhD. Achieving Peace in the Abortion War (New York: iUniverse, 2009) 140

This proves that in states where abortion is not covered by health insurance, there are fewer abortions. Perhaps the extra time that poor women need to get the money together for an abortion allows them to reflect on their situation and change their minds.

Belief in Christianity Has Radical Effect on Chinese Views on Abortion

A study was done where Chinese men and women were interviewed and asked their opinions on abortion. Chinese women are pressured to have abortions if they try to have more than one child. They are fined, and sometimes imprisoned  and forced to abort.

Here are the statistics:

Percentage that considered abortion:

taking a life: 36%

killing an infant: 31%

killing a human being: 27%

among Protestants

taking a life: 64%

killing an infant: 60%

killing a human being: 57%

among Catholics

taking a life: 92%

killing an infant 96%

killing a human being 88%

“Abortion in itself has nothing to do with ethics or morality.

71% agreed

77% of Catholics disagreed

56% of Protestants disagreed

“Under some situations, it is necessary to force a woman to have an abortion.”

75% agreed

25% of Catholics agreed

According to the author of the study:

“… conversion to Christianity (after having no particular religious commitment) signaled a radical change in attitudes toward the fetus and thus toward abortion.”

Aborted Babies Can Have Heartbeats for Hours After “Birth”, Says Nurse

I work in Labor and Delivery…we don’t perform elective abortions on our unit, but we do terminate in cases of infection in the amniotic fluid and or risk to the mother, or if the water has broken and not replenished, and the baby is not viable. Yes it’s hard to watch these little ones live after they are born, sometimes they have heartbeats for several hours, but many times they are so small that their eyes and mouths are still fused together…unable to pass a tube through. The difference is that the babies I deal with are wanted….and are mourned by their parents and families. We provide comfort, warmth, and love to these little ones for the short time they are here. We make memory boxes for the families with footprints, molds, and pictures. I can’t imagine working anywhere where this is a “choice.” We also provide our mothers with a high standard of medical care…. from what I am reading these clinics are full of filth and unsafe conditions and treat the women poorly

50% of Abortion Doctors Are Over 50

From an article that discussed a new policy among medical schools in New York to force medical students  to have training in  performing abortions:

“Of the roughly 2,000 doctors who now perform abortions, more than half are over 50.”

Dr. Allan Rosenfield, dean of Columbia University’s School of Public Health, estimated that 15 percent of OB-GYN residents might refuse abortion instruction for reasons of conscience

The policy would allow students who opposed abortion to opt out of the  training.

DAVID CRARY “ABORTION-TRAINING DEBATE RAGES” The Columbian (Vancouver, WA) May 28, 2002

There is hope that many  abortion doctors will retire in the coming years and there may not be new doctors to replace them. One of the reasons why many medical students don’t want to become abortionists is the stigma that comes with the job. Read more about that here.

Planned Parenthood Data Shows Few Women Would Have Abortions If They Were Illegal

Planned Parenthood tabulated 745,440 legal abortions in 1973. They claim there was a need for 1,258,000 to 1,745,000 in 1973 to 1974. They also claim there were only 17,000 illegal abortions. This translates to the statistic that only 1.6% of the women with unwanted pregnancies will get an abortion if abortion is illegal
