Dr. Alveda King, pro-life activist, describes how she was tricked into having an abortion she didn’t want.
“My involuntary abortion was performed just prior to the passage of Roe versus Wade by my private pro-abortion physician without my consent. I had gone to the doctor to ask why my cycle had not resumed after the birth of my son. I did not ask for, nor did I want an abortion.
The doctor said, “You don’t need to be pregnant, let’s see.” Without asking for my permission, he proceeded to perform a painful examination, which resulted in a gush of blood and tissue emanating from my womb. Afterwards, the doctor explained that he performed an abortion that he referred to as a simple procedure, “local D&C.”
She went on to have a legal abortion a number of years later:
“Soon after the Roe V Wade decision, I was again pregnant. There was adverse pressure and beyond this, a threat of violence from the baby’s father. The ease and convenience afforded through Roe versus Wade made it all too easy for me to make the fateful and fatal decision to abort our child. I went to a Planned Parenthood sanctioned doctor and was advised that the procedure would hurt no more than “having a tooth removed.”
The next day, I was admitted to the hospital, and our baby was aborted. My medical insurance paid for the procedure. As soon as I woke up, I knew that something was very wrong. I felt very ill, and very empty. I asked the doctors and nurses about the way I was feeling, but they reassured me, “it will go away in a few days. You will be fine.”
They lied.
Over the next few years, I experienced medical problems. I had trouble bonding with my son and his five siblings who were born after the abortions. I suffered from eating disorders, depression, nightmares, sexual dysfunctions, and a host of other issues related to the abortion that I chose to have.… I experienced uncontrollable waves of guilt over the abortion, I chose to have. The guilt made me very ill…
My children have all suffered from knowing that they have a brother or sister that their mother chose to abort. “You killed our baby.” Often they asked if I had ever thought about aborting them…
This has been and still is very painful for all of us. My mother and grandparents were very sad to learn about the loss of the baby. The aborted child’s father also regrets the abortions. If only I knew…
Had it not been for Roe versus Wade, I would never have had that second abortion.”

Patient Information: Divorced Catholic, one child. Not sure if she wants more. Used the Pill off and on for five years (obtained pill from Planned Parenthood) but the Pill made her nauseous. Presently using condoms; was using a condom when she got pregnant. Will continue to use foam and condoms after the abortion.
Before abortion: Tense, nervous, complaining. Cried.
During abortion: Mild pain.
After abortion: Walked, cried.

Observations: Would not relax at all- Dr. W. very patient- Angela cried and jumped around- had more mental anguish than any physical reactions- could it be Catholic feelings? She wanted to stop for a minute right when Dr. W inserted the cannula but Dr. W said he couldn’t wait. Angela got dressed, she cried and complained unjustly about Dr. W. being rude and impatient. He was never rude. She was just taking out her feelings on the doctor. I explained why he proceeded with VPT [Voluntary Pregnancy Termination a.ka. an abortion] then she asked him to wait. She left unhappy with doctor but she was calmed down and more rational. Angela was jittery during group and was fairly vocal. When I talked to her before VPT, she was nervous, but her decision was firm and did not consider other alternatives. Background and personal problems probably added to her reaction to Dr. W. Also, this seemed to be an outlet for her emotions about the VPT. Once this is behind her I think she’ll do okay. Attitude toward birth control: VERY BAD.

Patient information: Single, Christian, no children. Does want children. Ues the Pill, but missed some last month. Will continue to use the Pill after the abortion.
Before abortion: Overreacted, talkative.
During abortion: Pain was severe at times. Moist clammy skin. Hyperventilating; encouraged slow, deep breathing.
After abortion: Weak
Observations: She and Dr. P got along well. Then she really complained about the pain after saying “It wasn’t bad at all.” She would make no effort to get up afterwards. Dr. P did another procedure and had to wait until we moved her. She moaned in recovery and was there for over one hour. She felt like she was being rushed, but I’ve never seen anyone take so long to go through the clinic.

Patient information: Single, no children. Doesn’t want any. Used the Pill for five years, but presently uses nothing. Intends to get back on the Pill after the abortion.
Before abortion: Tense, screamed, overreacted
During abortion: Pain was severe at times

Observations: Maria is a ‘reformed’ drug addict. She may have trouble staying on her birth control pills. She screamed and moaned throughout procedure- was extremely tense from GC to last pelvic exam- terrible patient, but nice lady. Received patient in recovery room via wheelchair and appeared in satisfactory condition.

From an escort at an abortion clinic (escorts try to prevent pro-life sidewalk counselors from giving pamphlets to women coming in for abortions or speaking to them)
There are times a client and/or companion is so empowered they instantly gain my admiration.
The companion got out of the car first. E was hovering right behind me ready to start shaming. I was able to explain the vests and offer to escort them before he began his spiel. E handed the companion some literature. When I explained he was a protester, they handed it right back to him.
The companion and I escorted the client down the sidewalk. We were in a line: E, companion, client and me. E started with “Women regret their abortions. Don’t lead her into this place.” The companion waved dismissively at him and said, “Oh, I know all about abortion. I have had 10 already.” There was a pause then E leaned over towards the client and said “You don’t have to go into that place.” The client turned to me and said, “I am not listening to him.” I replied that was best.
We walked to the clinic entrance with E talking the whole time, but nobody was paying any attention to him.
It was great to witness these two completely ignoring the words meant to hurt and shame them. They are just words. The antis don’t know anything about the clients and why they made the decision for abortion. I felt privileged to witness this calm confidence.
It is of course possible that the statement of having 10 abortions was sarcasm, but either way, the clinic workers pride shows how twisted their mindset is.
