Pro-choicer: A dandruff flake can become a person

Pro-Abortion writer William Westmiller makes the following ridiculous argument:

“A late-term fetus looks very much like a real baby. But it isn’t.

A person is a living human. So is a fetus. But, so is any other cell on our bodies [sic]. In fact, modern genetics inform us that every cell that contains human DNA has all the potential required to develop into a complete person. Even a dead skin cell, like a dandruff flake, has all the genetic potential, given the proper environment, to become a person. So, we can’t use “human” or “living” as definitive characteristics of a person.”

William Westmiller “Human Personhood Begins at Birth” in Christine Watkins, editor The Ethics of Abortion (New York: Greenhaven press, 2005) 40 – 41

One can only guess that he is referring to cloning, an unnatural process that has never been accomplished with humans. Obviously, dandruff flakes will never become people, regardless of what environment you put then in.

Abortionist: “I’m sharing women’s problems”

One abortionist, on why he commits abortions:

“I know that I can perform the procedures well technically with a low rate of complications. I think I do a reasonably good job. I also know that I am sharing women’s problems rather than hiding from the bits of life I don’t like.”

Abortionist: I worry about respect for human life

From one abortionist:

“I have been doing abortion for years and have no physical or emotional reaction. I worry this means that I don’t have any respect for human life.”

Couples come in for abortion, often don’t use contraception

From the book Pregnancy and Abortion Counseling, which trains clinic workers and offers examples of patients. This clinic offers birth control in addition to abortions. But they find that many women who come in for abortions were not using birth control:

“There are many couples who do not want a pregnancy, yet still have sex without using any contraception. Frequently women only come to the doctor or clinic for the first time when they are already pregnant or think they are. Approximately 25% of first medical appointments at the Brandon Centre are for a pregnancy test.”

Doctor find abortion “nauseating”

From a consultant gynecologist, who makes abortion referrals:

“I find the process of midtrimester abortion of a normal fetus very disagreeable (and if done by D&E) nauseating.”

Psychiatrist on abortion’s aftermath for women

Dr. Eloise Jones, a Toronto psychiatrist, on why she stopped referring women for abortions:

“An abortion has not helped the self-image of any woman I have talked with. I was listening to one recently. She was very frightened lest her teenage daughter discover what she had done, and since the abortion she has become increasingly fearful, hostile, and unresponsive to her husband. In her and in others I have been presented with psychosomatic illness… All kinds of neurotic disturbances and some deep depressive reactions.”

“They told me that it wasn’t a baby”

11wklegs
11 weeks

A woman from the website Abortiontv, now down, told the following story:

I had an abortion a couple of years ago to twins. I didn’t know anything and they told me that it wasn’t a baby, there was no beating heart so there was no pain at all. They lied to me. I was 11 weeks to twins. I only did it thinking it was not harmful in any way.

After finding your website and looking it up on you tube I now learn what happens and the truth. I am broken hearted for what I have done to those two precious babies. I will never forgive myself.

I think it’s so important for women to know the truth before going ahead. The clinics lie to you to make you go through it. I was stupid enough to believe them.

I am having trouble with life now realizing what actually happens. I now have a 1 year little girl and she is the love of my life.

I am getting married this year but Every time I look at my daughter I think about those two angels everyday.

I really need help, I am struggling to go through this. I cry myself to sleep every night.

My fianc’e doesn’t know what to do. He was devastated to see the procedure as well and said he wouldn’t have let me go through with it if he knew.

But I just want to say thank you for telling women the truth. I just wish I found this website before I went through it. It would have saved two gorgeous babies lives.

I talk to them everyday. I try to think they are in heaven, but they would hate me so much. I don’t blame them. I wish I could turn back time.

Thank you for doing this for babies sake.

If I’d seen a sonogram, I would’ve chosen life

From one postabortion women:

“I know that my “story” would have ended differently had there been a pregnancy center to go to back in 1971. I know that I would’ve chosen life for my baby had I seen a sonogram, heard a heartbeat, and had more facts.”

Most doctors performing abortions are not OB/GYN’s

This quote reveals that the majority of abortion providers are not OB/GYN’s, which makes you wonder about their training and competence.

“Most abortions in the United States today are performed by general practitioners. Articles in medical journals have noted that fewer and fewer abortions are performed by obstetrical/gynecological personnel, in many instances because they are not trained or because they fear the violence in certain areas of the country that might result.”

Corinne J Naden Abortion (Tarrytown, New York: Marshall Cavendish Corporation, 2008) 86

The reasons the book gives for few Ob/Gyns doing abortions (basically it’s written from a pro-choice standpoint) are that it’s violence and lack of training that causes them not to perform abortions – but if there is a lack of training for OB/GYN’s, who are going to inthe specialty, what training is there for doctors studying in a different fields? And we know that stigma and the distasteful aspect of the work also contribute to doctors not wanting to perform abortions.
