An anonymous woman describes an abortion by RU-486 at six weeks.

“Back at the dorm, hours later, I know that I writhed in my twin bed, suffering from debilitating, convulsing cramps. My roommates, best friend, and boyfriend hovered around; they brought me pain killers, Tiger Balm, hot-water bottles, and applesauce, and all the while they stroked my head and conferenced in the background about how I was doing. I bled profusely as my body rejected the fetus that had been described to me as “the size of a grain of rice.” I threw up. And finally, I fell asleep.”

I also chose the RU-486 method when I was 19 because I did not want to take drugs that would sedate me, or be subjected to needles and vacuums. The day that I inserted the pills vaginally, I lost control of my body. Within hours I was convulsing on the floor, in incredible pain and crying hysterically. I was home alone and terrified. Now that I’m reading some of these experiences 11 years later, I feel lucky to be alive. I thought I was choosing the easier, less invasive method but I would never recommend the RU-486 to anyone, it’s too unpredictable.
