Unfortunately, abortion right’s groups have opposed guidelines that would increase the safety of RU-486 abortions. For example, an article from Newswire covered the National Abortion Federation’s press conference on the new abortion method.
Executive director of NAF Vicki Saporta says that doctors should receive training before providing RU-486 abortions but goes on to say plainly:
“While training is important, a third party certification of such training should not be an FDA requirement.”
So therefore, although training should be done, there should be no legal way to restrict untrained doctors from providing these abortions.
