In a June 6-8 inspection 2011, The Illinois Department of public health suspended the license of the abortion clinic in Rockford, Northern Illinois Women’s Center. They found:
“The facility did not ensure the presence of a registered nurse in the operating room during all invasive and operative procedures.
The facility did not ensure the presence of a registered nurse to direct and supervise the nursing personnel and the nursing care of patients.
The facility did not ensure that either of the two physicians on staff have and maintain surgical practice privileges with an Illinois-licensed hospital.
The facility did not have a written agreement with a laboratory that possesses a valid clinical laboratory improvement amendment certificate to perform any lab work that is not performed at the facility.”
All these deficiencies could compromise patient care. Without admitting privileges, it is more difficult to have a patient transferred to the ER if there is a problem. Without an agreement with a laboratory, abortion remains cannot be properly examined after they are removed from the woman’s body. Failure to have a pathologist inspect the remains would keep the clinic from knowing whether or not the entire baby and placenta were removed. Any parts left behind could cause a serious infection. Also, examining the abortion remains is the only way to screen for eptopic pregnancy, which if left untreated undetected, can cause fatal bleeding.
“According to the notice, the department “found conditions at (the Northern Illinois Women’s Center) that are directly threatening to the public interest, health, safety and welfare requiring immediate, emergency action.”
