Planned Parenthood Lies About Sonogram Bill

Planned Parenthood often has no qualms about lying to their supporters. Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, sent a letter to her supporters saying the following about bill HB 15:

“This week, Gov. Perry and anti-women’s health legislators in Texas passed a bill that would force women seeking abortion care to view a sonogram….Stand with Planned Parenthood and Texas women: tell Gov. Perry to stop blocking women’s access to health care.”

HB 15 actually does not require a woman to view an ultrasound, it simply offers her the opportunity to do so. This is a blatant lie.

From the bill

” A pregnant woman may choose not to view the sonogram images.”

Eric Scheidler” Planned Parenthood CEO Lies about Blocked Texas Ultrasound Bill” September 8, 2011

Planned Parenthood, which performs a sonogram before each abortion as a matter of routine, opposes letting a woman see the image, even if she wants to. There have been many accounts from women who went into have abortions at Planned Parenthood and were not allowed to see the ultrasound screen or were strongly discouraged from doing so. They have no problem with lying to their supporters so they don’t realize how extreme their agenda is.  A woman should not even be allowed the opportunity to view an ultrasound according to Planned Parenthood. After all, many women might change their mind after seeing one. Read about one woman and her reaction to seeing the ultrasound here.

Planned Parenthood has lied to their supporters about other issues too. Here is an example concerning a law that would’ve made abortion clinics meet the same medical and safety standards of other outpatient medical facilities. Planned Parenthood opposed this law, and lied about it.

Teenager Forced to Abort Due to Lack of Support

A woman who had an abortion before due to lack of support from her mother and her boyfriend said the following:

“So it was back to the Manhattan abortion clinic. What else was I going to do? Who could I turn to? The minister who didn’t have the time of day for me? Somebody at my school? There’s nobody. So my mom takes me to the clinic. When it’s time for me to sign the form I whispered to the nurse, “I don’t want to have the abortion – my mother’s making me, she somewhere in the building, but please don’t make me have the abortion.” The nurse just said, “Look, there are people waiting. Do you want to do it or don’t you? Make a decision or get out.” The thoughts were flying through my head: where would I live? Who would pay the doctor? Who could I turn to?

I couldn’t think of any answers. So I said, “Okay. I’ll have the abortion.” And I did”

Many women have abortions due to lack of support from the people in their lives. Often, the male partner coerces them into it, other times, it is the parents when the woman is a teenager. Read more about coerced abortions here.

Man Observes Women “Distraught and Crying” after Abortions

From a man who worked two doors down from an abortion clinic in New Orleans. Gentilly Medical Clinic for Women was closed for repeated health and safety violations:

“Actions speak louder than words. Seeing their [the women, after their abortions] physical conditions, being held up by family members, distraught and crying, I believe more is going on in their [sic] than the story that the sign says.”

The Department of Health and hospitals revoked the clinic’s license May 25, 2011, after a May 6 investigation found that “the facility failed to provide nursing services to meet the needs of its patients and adequately monitor women in recovery following a procedure.”

Woman Struggles after Her Abortion

A woman named Sally tells her story:

“It wasn’t a hard decision, but it was a horrible decision. I felt like I had to do it to survive; I thought my parents would never talk to me again if they found out I was pregnant. I even imagined grandparents in heaven hating me. I tried to involve the guy. I was wishing he would marry me, and I could see no other way to continue the pregnancy. But he was such a jerk. He took me to the clinic, but I paid the whole thing; afterwards he took me to his house and ignored me while I lay there in pain and bleeding. Instead, he went out and bought a kid’s racecar set, set it up on the living room rug, and invited his friends over to play!…

I can’t believe that I stood for that kind of disrespect….. At the clinic they were so cold; the doctor didn’t even tell me his name, but I thought, “This is what I deserve.” I just felt so boxed in, like I had no other choice. Every step I took, I took to function, to survive. So after that I shut down for 10 years, except for anniversary reactions… And I refused to hold a baby.”

Woman Calls Abortion Counseling “Phony”

One woman who had an abortion, whose name was only given as Annette, said that the counseling she received at the clinic was a joke:

“It was like a tea party. Everybody gave her reason, like, “I forgot to take my pill.” And the leader would go, “Oh my!” It felt so unreal, so phony.”

Planned Parenthood President: Ultrasounds before Abortions Are a “Dangerous Agenda”

Referring to a bill supported by Rick Perry that would allow women to see an ultrasound of their unborn baby before going through with an abortion, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said the following. Keep in mind that Planned Parenthood routinely does ultrasounds anyway to gauge the length of pregnancy and rule out ectopic pregnancies. Women are just not allowed to look at the screen or discouraged from doing so.

“Why is Rick Perry so cruel to women?… Rick Perry is running for president, and if he wins, you can bet he’ll force this dangerous agenda on every woman in every state. If we don’t stand up to him now, women may suffer the consequences for years to come.”

Maggie Haberman  “ Richards: Perry ‘so cruel’ to women” Politico, Sept 1, 2011

first trimester ultrasound

Apparently, seeing an ultrasound before an abortion is  something that Planned Parenthood considers dangerous– perhaps if fewer women choose to have abortions, it would cut into the organization’s profits.

Read about Abby Johnson, Planned Parenthood director, whose change of heart happened after watching an abortion on the ultrasound.

Postabortion Man Calls for Churches to Recognize Abortion Grief

“Research indicates that by age 40 one in four women have had an abortion and the fact is that many of them are sitting in our church pews broken and silent. It is my position that the same can be said of the men. What about the post-abortive father’s guilt, anger and emotional scars? Many of these fathers are as hurt as the mothers. It’s time for the church to open its eyes as well as it’s hearts and arms to these wounded men. They need assistance to break their chains of secrecy, seek godly professional counsel and find true healing.”

Woman Delivers Aborted Baby into Toilet

10-week-old fetus

“Melinda” was not notified that the pathology report came back from her abortion showing no fetal remains. Before her scheduled follow-up appointment, she reported to an emergency room due to severe cramping pain. While in the hospital bathroom, she expelled a four-and-a-half inch fetus into the toilet. Melinda screamed until she was taken to an exam room to have the placenta removed. Melinda needed psychiatric care for depression, nightmares, and inability to sleep.”

Woman Goes into Labor after Abortion, Delivers Part of Baby

One woman’s story:

14 week old fetus

“Teresa” had her abortion on September 1, 1989, at a National Abortion Federation member clinic. During the abortion, she was told that she was more than the 10 or 12 weeks pregnant that she had originally been diagnosed to be. Staff performed an ultrasound and declared the fetus to be 14 weeks. The abortionist demanded an additional $225, which Teresa didn’t have. The abortionist sent her home, bleeding. Later that day Teresa was admitted to a hospital, where labor was induced. She expelled a fetus missing its leg and intestines.
