Before 6 weeks, an abortion leaves no recognizable remains. The tiny embryo is completely shredded in the process of the abortion. The embryo has not yet taken on recognizable human features. If you have a medical (by pill)abortion before 6 weeks, you will not see a recognizable embryo. (surgical abortions are seldom done before 7 weeks) However, the embryo’s heart has been beating since the 21st day and he or she (gender is determined at conception) has brain waves at the end of the 5th week. She is already a growing organism. At six weeks though, body parts are forming.
At 6 weeks, fingers are just beginning to separate. An abortion at this stage may yield tissue that looks like this.
The baby above is a six week miscarriage still in the sac. A baby aborted at six weeks would look like this if the abortion was by pill (where the baby was poisoned) A surgical abortion would tear the child apart.
By the 7th week, very recognizable fetal parts are left behind.
At 8 weeks, the baby looks even more human.
At 9 weeks, the features are even more developed
Over 40% of all abortions are done after 9 weeks . At 10 weeks, the fetus has a very recognizable face
At 11 weeks, the fetus is even more developed
12 weeks is the end of the 1st trimester.
Post-28 weeks: (third trimester: legal in a number of states, restricted in others)
